m and n can be anything: positive or negative, integer or fraction.
If you get a similar question in actuals, just skip individual statements and look if you can get anything when combined.

Combined
Substitute n=-2m in mn=-8.
m(-2m)=-8
\(m^2=4\)

m can be 2 or -2, respective value of n can be -4 and 4.
m+n can be 2-4 or -2+4
