Full Time MBA in USA post 12 years of Work Ex

hi,

I am planning to give GMAT attempt in Oct 21. I have around 12 yers of work ex with an age of 35 years and want to pursue 2 year full time MBA from the USA.

Can anyone please guide me on this aspect.

Also are colleges in US willing to take such long work ex in their full time courses.

Help and guidance shall be highly appreciated

To be frank, this will be a tough proposition. Full-time MBA programs in the US are not keen on applicants who are 35 years old, give or take. The Executive MBA or part-time MBA programs are more geared for people with your professional experience. Even the average age for one-year MBA programs are in the high 20s.

Of course, you are by all means welcome to apply and won't be disqualified outright, but the hurdle is much higher than for applicants with similar credentials but on the younger side. If you have a legitimate and unique reason why you are much older and need a full-time MBA, you should make that loud and clear. That's your best shot.

If not full time MBA , what are the other options you suggest for people with similar experience. IS this like a block that once you have spent 12 years in an industry , you can not change . OR probably jump from technical to management.
I personally fell after 12 years one feels a mid life crisis state and wants to explore options for him/her.
What are your suggestions for people who want to learn management skills and grow in their field.

That's why we are recommending the Executive MBA/Part-time MBA. It is a good fit for someone with your experience to round out their strategy, management, operations, etc. skillset to make the move from technical to management. It does not necessarily happen overnight but having that degree will give you the credibility and (academic) knowledge to justify a promotion or lateral move within industry.

You could also consider other master degree programs, but those tend to be the same situation as the full-time MBA. Lastly, you could look at top schools offering things like executive crash courses to earn a management certification or something to that effect.

Schooling is a way to prepare yourself for the job! At a certain point, there's only so much you can learn from a program/school that you won't eventually experience on the job.

Why can't he consider 1 year MBA programs in USA or Europe

See our initial response to his program. His age is the primary reason.

He's certainly not disqualified but he'll have a hard time getting in based on the demographics. That's our professional opinion.

I think he can consider RSM , EDHEC, ESMT, RSM there average class age is 30

I work in Oil industry Fortune 500 company and am looking to pursue MBA in SCM, which is my profile as of now in schools like Fisher, Purdue, Michigan etc. Will a good profile not accommodate for the age factor?

If you go back to our original reply, we are just saying it will be very tough. Things like fit, unique background, etc. can all help mitigate the age factor. As for whether it'll be enough, that's anyone's guess.

If you are very concerned and don't want to take the risk of applying blindly, you should directly reach out to the AdCom at those schools you mentioned and ask for an honest answer about how your candidacy would be viewed. They might just give you feedback that can guide you even more than us.

No problem. For someone with your background, aim to cross that 700 threshold. If you can get a 730+ that would be even greater. Anything much higher than that would be nice but would have a marginal additional benefit at most. If you're looking at scholarship money, the higher the better.
