Hey,

I am having hard-time deciding if I should apply for MSc in Management programs prevalent in US.
My Profile:
24 y, Indian, Male
Undergrad - 8.0 (Not IIT/NIT)
GMAT - 700
Work Ex: 2 yrs Tech Consulting EY (Tech roles + few Leadership Roles - Promotions)
Leading Board member for PR at local club
International Intern Experience (Non-Profit)

Post-Master Goals- Want to work in Consumer Retails.
Strategy Consulting open as well

My concern is: MiM programs strictly have upper limit for 2 yrs work-ex.
I would be applying for Fall22. By then, my workex would be 3 yrs, which is not preferable to many schools.
Moreover, US Mim programs are mostly 10-12 months, stripping my chances for STEM OPT as well.
I have contacted few admission offices as well, but haven't got a concrete response yet.(Though waiting from many)

If anyone can suggest some colleges which I could apply.
I am also open to MBA programs but they have average 5 yrs Workex.
I don't know if it would be wise to apply there.

Right now, I feel numb by the situation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am Simran, I am a final year engineering student, focused in Computer Engineering with majors in Data Science, from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala,India. I am planning to give my GMAT by September this year, I also have an intermediate level of Corporate finance as a part of my engineering degree. I have been a part of AIESEC in Patiala and Thapar MUN society for a year, and have held major positions in both of them, I have also been the head organizer of a charity fundraiser in Chandigarh in tie up with an LA based NGO. I have a summer internship experience as Business Analyst intern at EdiQue, on their consulting projects in collaboration with the Government of India. I want to apply for MSc Data science and Business Analytics or MSc Finance at HEC Montreal(wherever I stand a better chance to clear), please let me know my chances for the same.
I actually want to get into the Consulting line, I'm fine with that being Management Consulting or Business Consulting. Whereever I stand a better chance, could you just let me know my chances at top notch B-Schools for MiM or MSc in relevant fields, so that I can get into the consulting line

Hello hk111,

There are some good things listed in your profile. Let me focus on what will matter

1. What did you learn in the internship with the largest textile company .

2. The summer exchange is always a great chance for international exposure and learning. How did you leverage that experience ? Or how would you like to talk about it in your application?

3. What was your role in the family business. How did you contribute?

The college related initiatives are good. Research work will help when you want to aim for assistantships

LBS and LSE are ambitious, ESSEC is good.

Focus on a good GMAT score it will improve your probability of admit for sure.

Do ping me if you want to discuss your profile in detail.

All the best,
Shree

Hello everyone, please evaluate my profile for the top 100 MBA programmes, for MiM Program.

29-year-old male from India.

I have graduated in 2015 with my Bachelor in Mechanical engineering. I got Aggregate 75 (scale of 100) (first distinction).

I completed my masters in mechanical engineering in 2018 with GPA 7.83 (scale of 10) I have 2 publications and 2 conferences.

I am working as a design engineer in R&D of one of India’s top MNCs for past 3 years. My company is in defence business, we create defense systems for the country. My role is mostly technical however I have exposure to managing few people and have regular interactions with the customers and vendors.GMAT score expected 650+.

I have experience in working and observing the manufacturing processes and am thinking about operations management or supply chain management.

I don’t have any academic or sports awards or any international experience.

I have many certifications (mostly technical).I have volunteered at a local NGO. I have started my website for science communication .I have been a reviewer in one of the publication.

Extracurricular activities: I love to play chess. Singing is also my hobby.

I am planning to publish a few books in kindle. I am almost done with my first book.

Negative points: I had a backlog in bachelors 1st semester , which i cleared. I also have 2 year gaps one after my HSC and one after bachelors for health reasons.

I’m really curious to know if I can grab a seat in any top 100 colleges, also if i could do something in meantime to improve my chance. I would apply for the next intake. As budget is also a constraint for me, i could only afford to go to colleges with nominal fees (I have a budget of around $50,000) thank you for your time and valuable advice!

Hi,

I am planning to apply for MiM at Insead, HEC & LBS in 2022 intake.
I am a little confused with my profile -- I am sharing my credentials below -- Please suggest the chances of my admission & also suggest how I can improve my profile.

My Credentials:
-Indian Male.
-10th (Middle School Equivalent): 94%
-12th (High School/Diploama Equivalent): 70%
-Bachelors in Tech - Electronics (B.Tech) from MAIT, GGSIPU (Ranked ~50 in the country) : 7 CGPA (I had taken 2-year breaks intentionally to pursue entrepreneurship)
-I had 1 serious startup during college that at top of it generated 50k USD in revenue & was seed-funded. It eventually failed.
-I was consulting a couple of companies to earn my bread.
-I worked as City Head at a growing startup handling a team of 20 ppl -- mainly MBAs from tier 1 & B.Techs from tier 1 at the age of 21.
-I am yet to take a GMAT. Planning in next 2 months. How much should I score to compensate for my bad academics?

Why I am doing master's?
To use the learnings in starting up again.

Regards,
Shantanu

Hey shanshrma!

Let's start with a quick profile evaluation so that I can help you evaluate your profile strengths and weaknesses.
Starting from your academics I would say that you have a CGPA of 7 during your undergraduate which is pretty decent and lies on the average front. However, you can easily overshadow this by drawing attention towards other endeavours in your profile and an excellent GMAT score. That said, to answer your question, you should target a GMAT score of at least 710 and the higher the better. This is what you should be looking at to boost your chances of getting accepted in schools like HEC or LBS.

Talking about your practical experiences over here as you have been into entrepreneurship you can use the same to highlight your leadership endeavours. Always remember that schools are interested in knowing about the kind of impact that you have created so talk about the projects you have done, teams lead and how have you managed to take your startup to the next level. You do lack big brands in your profile and you will be competing with applicants hailing from big brands like KPMG, Deloitte and EY. However, you can easily stand out by talking about the value that you have added and what were your learnings from there and this can be perceived as good value addition because schools are constantly looking for students who have varied experiences under their belt. Additionally, you also hold good leadership experiences which can be further groomed by highlighting projects that you have worked on and impacts created while working for the above-mentioned organisations.

For the extracurricular activities, you haven’t provided much information in this regard. That said, your extracurricular activities are important because business schools are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles. Thus, it is essential that you mention your participation in any clubs, associations, and volunteering work during your undergrad. Moreover, you can also take up some certifications courses to upskill yourself and further improve your profile.

Based on the information you've provided, here's a breakdown of the schools that you can target

HEC, INSEAD and LBS will fall under the Dream Category with a 40-50% chance of acceptance.
Moreover, in order to hedge your bets wisely, you can target other competitive schools
Such as ESSEC, ESCP, Warwick, CASS, and EDHEC which will fall under the Competitive Category with 50 to 60% chances of acceptance

All things considered, in order to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools, you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Therefore, in lieu of that, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 5000+ applicants get into their dream schools. You would also be entitled to end-to-end consulting combined with unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only this, you’d be consulted by a B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process, right from finalising the right schools and submitting an impactful application to the school to preparing you for the interview and bagging scholarships!

It would be great if you guys could suggest a few good universities for me to pursue my masters from

Hi Dreamer5674,

Before diving into your profile evaluation, I would like to point out that you have a very promising profile for an MiM program in the top B-schools. Now when it comes to your undergraduate degree, you have attained a 77% grade which is quite decent to get admitted into the top MiM programs in the world. Moreover, your GRE score of 324 further confirms your strong academic prowess. However, since you are not from a branded college/university, you may face some stiff competition from other applicants who majorly hail from either the IITs or the NITs. Having said that, you can definitely compensate for this setback by drawing attention to other strong aspects of your profile such as extracurricular or work experience to showcase a holistically developed profile.

Now coming to your professional experience, your profile stands out the most since it helps differentiate you from the applicant pool as it is not very often that an applicant for an MiM program has had entrepreneurial experiences. As a result, your experiences as the co-founder and founder of two startups helps showcase your leadership capabilities along with an entrepreneurial mindset, something which these B-schools heartily appreciates. Moreover, you have also had some marketing and finance related internships in the past which again validates your potential. That said, you can elevate your profile further by talking about the kind of projects you led, the skills you honed and the kind of knowledge you were able to gain throughout your work experience.

Moving on to extracurriculars, which is equally important as it helps showcase a holistically developed profile which is what the schools are looking for. In this respect, you have a solid portfolio with diverse extracurricular activities under your belt. That is to say, your endeavours as part of the Toastmasters International, as the professional development director of the Rotaract International and as the founding committee of the (MUN) in your college, puts you in a much more secure position as a promising candidate for the MiM program. That said, you can use these endeavours to highlight your leadership, teamwork, social, communication, initiative-taking and many more relevant skills.

Speaking of the schools that you can target for an MiM program are segregated into three categories:
Under the dream category( 40% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as LBS, LSE, HEC, DUKE and INSEAD.
Under the competitive category( 50-60% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as ESSEC, ESCP, EDHEC, FSFM, IE and ESADE.
Under the safe category( 60-70% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as EDHEC, GRENOBLE, SKEMA and CASS.

All things considered, you definitely have a well-groomed profile which you can take to the next level through your application (comprising your resume, LORs, and Essays) as it helps differentiate you from the other applicants by highlighting your strengths and overshadowing your weaknesses such as your mediocre college brand. Additionally, it also carries a 30% impact on your admission prospects which is why I would urge you to pay more attention to the same.

That said, if you are on the fence on how to draft an impactful application, you can check out our All-in-one service which is a complete end to end consulting process aimed at providing personalised application suggestions, unlimited edits and expert consultants who would constantly be there to help you throughout your application journey! This end to end consulting service also encompasses assistance for scholarship essays, loans, visas and most importantly the interview preparation.
We have helped 5000+ applicants get into the top B-schools with a 97% success rate. So what are you waiting for? Just click on the link below to find out how you could boost your chances of acceptance by at least 3X!

Work experience and leadership 22 year old with 2 years of full time work experience (plus 2 years as an apprentice, which I believe is not counted as work experience) in one of India's top hotel chain, I undertook several roles during my time at the property ranging from Guest Relation Executive to Head Concierge. I was also involved in training new employees, the top product up-seller in the hotel and took part various other voluntary activities in the hotel (think : cleanliness drives, elderly care initiatives)
Universities I am looking at MiM programs Essec/ SDA/ ESADE/ Frankfurt and Toulouse for R1 in August.
Post Master goals Looking to mix the management experience I will receive with my previous experience in hospitality to further my career in luxury brand/ brand management.
However, my under graduation was a correspondence program and I haven't been exposed to University life as such and my undergrad score isn't very competitive (60%) considering I was juggling work and studies. I plan on leveraging a good GMAT score and high quality essays to offset this lack. What are you guys think? Do I have a shot? I am also open to suggestions with regards to choice of universities.
Thanks!

Hey gimmepepperoni!

Let’s start with a quick profile evaluation so that I can help you evaluate your profile strengths and weaknesses. I would like to do this with your academic background. You have mentioned that you have completed your undergrad in Hospitality and Tourism which will definitely differentiate you from the crowd. On the other hand, your undergrad score of 60% is decent enough. However, this should not be of concern to you since you are targeting business schools in Europe and they tend to be flexible in this regard. Moreover, you will still need to have a strong reason to back this up by drawing attention towards other aspects of your profile including high-quality essays.

Furthermore, you can always highlight your participation in extracurricular activities to overshadow your percentage in undergraduate. You did mention that you have been actively involved in voluntary work that showcases your strong interest in making a positive impact and developing a holistic profile. You can also mention your involvement in other extracurricular fronts to further strengthen your profile. Since top B schools are always on the lookout for candidates who are constantly upskilling themselves, you can take certain certifications courses to demonstrate your drive for the field of management.

Coming to your work experiences, you do have relevant experience in the hospitality and tourism industry with a big brand name attached to your profile. Furthermore, you have also held executive and leadership positions that add significance to your overall profile. Here in order to boost your profile and set you apart from the competition, you need to highlight how you have gone above and beyond, any initiatives you took, projects you worked on, and any kind of impact created during these experiences.

As for the GMAT score, I suggest you aim for a minimum score of 680 or 690, with the higher the better.

As for the schools that you have mentioned, here's a breakdown of your chances of getting accepted
ESSEC, ESADE, Frankfurt, SDA, Toulouse will all fall under the competitive category with 60% chances of acceptance
Having said that, in addition to these you can also look forward to the MIM program offered at ESCP, ESMT, IE which will also fall under the competitive category.

Hi Everyone, I want to apply for the 2022 intake at HEC, LBS, and such. But I only recently started planning, and I am not very knowledgeable in this stuff, so any help will be very welcome.

Background and nationality - 22-year-old Indian, graduated in June 2021.

Undergrad Information - Low CGPA (6.4/10) from BITS Pilani(Goa Campus). Dual in MSc. Economics + B.E. Mechanical Engg., Economics grades are a bit better at around 7 and especially finance grades are a lot better at 9+ but not sure that'll be evident in the transcript or it even matters.

GMAT/GRE - Got 730 in the 1st official practice test before starting my prep a week ago, 750+ seems doable with a month or two of preparation and some luck in Verbal.

Work experience and leadership - 8 months of internship in risk at a Top-10 investment bank. Joined a start-uppish goods trading company as head of the finance department a month ago.

Community and others - Meh. Some voluntary teaching experience, plus helped out my family business in the finance department while at college, but again nothing substantial.

Post Master goals - Get into one of the big consulting firms. More than open to learning more languages as well while studying.

Thanks!!!

Please evaluate my profile for top 20 MiM programs!

Background and nationality: 22F Indian

Undergrad Information: BTech in IT from private uni in Mumbai, MBA in Tech Management with a finance major and business intelligence and analytics minor - CGPA - prolly 3.0 out of 4 at graduation

GMAT/GRE - haven't taken in yet but confident I can score bw 700-750

Work experience and leadership - 2 months web dev internship at a startup, 4 months internship at a payment solutions provider doing BI. On campus leadership - 1 year as an HOD and USG at MUN, served as a vertical lead for 2 other MUNs, led the college contingent to winning delegation awards at MUNs in my city including at IITB, participated and abjudicated at over 60 MUNs, played basketball for the college team for the first couple of years and all throughout school

Community and others - None but I think the MUN part should work?

Anything else? - google data analytics, wharton business analytics, isb financial markets, uni of melbourne corpfin essentials, vba for creative problem solving specialisations, bloomberg market concepts, cfa investment foundation, have had virtual internships with PwC, Deloitte, Citi, JPM from InsideSherpa too

Skills - C++, Python, SQL, Excel, PowerBI, some amount of Tableau and learning R rn

My endgame is wanting to settle in whichever country I do my Masters in (anywhere else but India works), kind of preferential towards 2 year MiM programs. Like I said, I’d love to recruit to MBB consulting, BigTech or global markets divisions of investment banks.

What are my chances? Is there anything I can do to uplift my profile?

Hey notanmfeapplicant!

To begin with, your profile showcases a series of diverse academic backgrounds, namely in the field of technology and business administration. Your unique profile will definitely be bringing diversity to the school’s cohort when applying for a MIM program. That said, your undergrad CGPA of 3 out of 4 is decent enough and will allow you to easily target top-notch schools for the MIM program.

Coming to the extracurricular front, here you have taken up a good amount of extracurricular activities during your undergraduate and postgraduate studies. It is essential that you shed light on varied skills under your belt since top business schools are constantly looking for applicants with a holistic developed profile. Your stint with MUN demonstrates your ability to lead. Moreover, you possess a diverse range of abilities that will give you an upper hand in the selection process. To build on this, you can also bring to light any certifications in the above-mentioned areas since top B schools are on the lookout for applicants who are on the path of constantly upskilling themselves.

Talking about the work experiences, here you have good brand names like Deloitte, PwC and Citi embellishing your profile. However, you should be cognizant of the fact that your internships qualify for virtual internships which might be a setback when compared to other applicants who have completed their internship with other big brands. Therefore in order to differentiate yourself, you need to showcase your journey and highlight all the learnings to overshadow your competition. Here you need to talk about any major projects you worked upon, any impacts created or how you went above and beyond your role to showcase an equally competent profile.

As for the GMAT, here you have the opportunity to add a standard factor to your profile. While in general, most MIM universities require a GMAT score of 710, I would definitely recommend you to aim for a GMAT score of 750 - the higher the better.

Based on the information you've provided, here's a breakdown of the schools that you can target for a 2-year MiM program

Under the Dream Category with a 40% chance of acceptance - HEC Paris
Competitive Category with 50 to 60% of chances - ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM
Safe Category with 60 to 70% chances - EDHEC, Grenoble, Skema

Hi kushahuja,
First and foremost, you have a decent profile which holds a lot of potential. Your academic grades are also quite satisfactory which is well complemented by your top tier college brand. Apart from this, you are also targeting a 720+ GMAT score for your upcoming GMAT exam which is definitely a compelling move in the right direction.
Coming to your work experience, you have been working as a data analyst for the past 10 months in a reputed company which is quite impressive. That said, keeping in mind the equally competitive applicant pool, you also need to highlight the intensity and quality of your work experience by highlighting the kind of projects you spearheaded, the impacts you created and your major takeaways.
Moving on to the extracurriculars, which is equally important as it helps showcase a holistically developed profile, in this respect, you have a wide range of activities under your belt which goes to showcase the diversity in your profile. Having said that, you can elevate your profile further by showcasing your endeavours in a way which highlights your interpersonal skills. For instance, you can highlight your leadership skills through your positions of responsibility in the Sci-tech Club as well as your socially responsible trait through your involvement in the various social projects. Additionally, you could also take up a few certifications or courses to highlight your learning curve. That said, your stance to take up the CFA certification is definitely the right move in this regard. As a result, these traits shed light on the budding leader within you.
Speaking of the schools that you are targeting, HEC and LBS fall under the dream category (where you have a 40-50% chance of acceptance). St Gallen on the other hand is out of your league since it only admits business graduates. Taking these into account, you can hedge your bets wisely by applying to more B-schools such as INSEAD and LSE in the dream category and ESSEC, Imperial, ESCP, FSFM, ESADE, IE in the competitive category (where you have a 60-70% chance of acceptance).
Considering the fact that you have an excellent profile, you need to supplement it with an equally great application. Your application is basically what can differentiate you from the rest of the equally competitive application pool. You also need to showcase your journey and how you are a great value addition to the school. Additionally, it also carries a 30% impact on your admission prospects which is why I would urge you to pay more attention to the same.

That said, if you are contemplating on how to draft an impactful application, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 5000+ applicants get into their dream schools. You would also be entitled to end-to-end consulting combined with unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only this, you’d be consulted by a top B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process, right from finalizing the right schools and submitting an impactful application to the school to preparing you for the interview and bagging scholarships!
