Hi,

I would appreciate a lot if you could evaluate my profile :)

Demographics: 27, Male, Indian Citizen, Non - IT Engineer (Mechanical Engineer)

GMAT Score: 680(Q48 V35 IR4 AWA5) - Planning to retake GMAT again (kindly advice if it is required considering my profile and target colleges)

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree: Mechanical Engineering - Top 75 University in India, GPA: 8.9/10 (USA GPA - 3.74)
Master's Degree: Civil Engineering with Mechanical Options - Top 3 University in India - IIT Madras, GPA:8.9/10 (USA GPA - 3.75)
Chartered Engineer, IMechE, UK

Extra-curriculars
State level cricketer. Also represented University while in Engineering; Fitness Enthusiast - Regular in Marathon and running events; Avid Trekker - Have trekked multiple times in Himalayan region; Volunteer in few events

Work Experience -

Working in India's Largest Construction firm's International Water Division, We bid for tenders in developed economies such as UAE, Oman, Qatar and in Underdeveloped Nations such as Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana. Have also secured multiple promotions (2 in 4 years). My role is estimation of Mechanical Equipment in the plants and also includes coordination among various stakeholders such as Design Consultant, Higher Management, Client, etc.

Post MBA goals
Consulting or Team Lead roles in MNCs; Industry-shift

Target Colleges - Duke, Michigan Ross, Tepper, Tuck, Darden, Foster, Mccombs, Mcdonnough, Cornell, Kenan- Flagler, Marshall. (Top 30 colleges)

Hi shaktitinku, hope you are well. Yes, I advise a GMAT retake, it will only help, since you are in a highly competitive cohort (even if your particular role right now is less common). You generally want to shoot for a performance that is 20-40 points over the schools' published averages when you are in a highly competitive category. That means a 740 or so for schools like Darden, Duke. Wishing you good luck!

Your GPA looks good, but schools do tend to prefer "pipeline" schools sometimes and I'm not sure how a top 75 will fare. IIT Madras will be a positive, but undergrad would have helped more of course. Still, nice school performance.

Your work experience is a little underdescribed here, but schools will be looking for your leadership and impact. It's good you were promoted; hopefully you can show how and why and your recommenders can vouch for how you outperformed your peers. If you personally have some experience abroad in these international locations, don't forget to describe it, it's a plus!

Finally, if your list of schools ends up being long, I advise you to try to still take the time to get to know the schools and what makes them special, and use the essays to show your fit.

Hi,

In continuation to my request above, I would like to update that i have achieved a score of 710 now. (Q 49 V 38 IR 7).

I request you to suggest which colleges can I apply for.

OK, got it. Good job improving your score!

I still think the competition from your general category is pretty tough, so your list still looks a bit reach-heavy to me, as you're not quite at the range you want to hit for schools with 700-710 averages (which is 20-40 points above). So I'd suggest going more toward these schools:

More Target - Questrom, Goizueta, Owen, Mendoza, Kelley, Cox

I'd put these in a low reach area:
Low Reach - Kenan-Flagler, McDonough, Foster, Tepper

And the rest you mentioned more in the reach division. Of course, you can and should apply to a couple of reaches, but to have the best chance of success, I'd add a healthy mix from the Target category above and even schools with averages below that and see how it goes. GOOD LUCK!
