Hi fellow GMATClubbers
I want to share my experience after taking the GMAT twice and would appreciate to get some advice or opinions from fellow GMAT takers.
My target score is a minimum of 710 points. However, I only achieved a score of 680 (Q48/V35/IR7) on my first attempt and a score of 680 (Q48/V35/IR7) on my second attempt (exactly the same score… strange, right?).
I practiced with
Manhattan Prep and answered all practice questions in the
OG 2022. In the 6 official CATs I gradually progressed: My first time results were 650, 690, 710, 750, 760, 760 respectively. Conscious also of my top-notch grades in my bachelor’s degree, I felt like my target score was absolutely within reach.
After taking the GMAT the first time (680) and scoring well below my CAT results I was convinced that my nervousness and pressure kept me from scoring better. I had to rush through some parts because I was short of time and I noticed how the time pressure fogged my brain. Hence, I took the GMAT 17 days later and did a lot of mental preparation for my second attempt.
After taking the GMAT a second time I was extremely disappointed with my result (680 again). I was less nervous and I had less timing issues. I also was convinced I still had the knowledge.
Now I really start to question myself:
- Were my scores in the official CATs really representative? Or were my prep materials (
Manhattan prep and OG22) just based on these CATs?
- Is my underlying problem the pressure I put on myself or do I lack knowledge on the GMAT concepts?
- Should I just write the GMAT again without any preparation to relieve me of the pressure I put on myself?
- Or should I work on concepts again?
Any advice or opinion from fellow GMAT takers would really help me to achieve my dream score!
Thank you,
Chux
