Since it is a square garden and each side is covered at different speeds, let's assume side of each square to be 120 miles (LCM of 20, 30, 40 and 60) for the ease of calculations.

Therefore AVG SPEED = TOTAL DISTANCE/TOTAL TIME

TOTAL DISTANCE= 4*120= 480
TOTAL TIME = (120/20)+(120/30)+(120/40)+(120/60) =6+4+3+2= 15

Therefore Avg speed = 480/15 = 32 mph

Let's assume side of square be x. Avg speed = total distance/ total time taken
= 4x/ (x/20)+(x/30)+(x/40)+(x/60)
= 40x/(30x/24) = 32 mph
