Hello everyone,

I graduated from Savitribai Phule Pune University(India) with a degree in Business Administration(specialization in Finance) and had an undergraduate GPA of 7.86/10. I also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in International Business from the same university with a 9.8/10 CGPA. And im confident in my faculty writing my strong LORs.

I recently gave the GRE and scored a total of 327(Q169, V 158) which converts to a 720 GMAT.

I only have one two month long internship during my undergrad.
I have some extra curricular experience and representing my University at the All India Basketball Tournament.(idk if that is helpful?)

I'm planning on applying for a MS in Finance to Bocconi, Vanderbilt, McMaster Univeristy and ESADE, Stockholm School of Economcs.

What are your thoughts and opinions on my chances getting accepted to these universities?

Thank you in advance. :)

Hey Tanmaymandot1,
Firstly I would like to mention you have done your research and have selected pretty good universities for yourself.
I don't think you need any school recommendations.

What I would like to address here is your profile.
MFin is a great course and competitive as well.
You will be evaluated in a number of parameters. Let me break it down for you.

Education: You mentioned that you are a recent graduate with a Finance and Accounts major where you got a pretty good GPA. So you are golden here.

GMAT: GMAT is one of the key parameters on which you will be evaluated, and a 750 GMAT score is like hitting the jackpot.

Extracurricular activities: your extracurriculars are pretty decent. It definitely showcases your leadership and hard-working skills.
I would recommend you to do volunteering as well, as it will shine in your application.

Work Experience: In almost all MFin schools, work experience is mandatory, preferably in finance.
You might lag points here as you have less than a year's worth of experience.
But with your GPA and GMAT scores, it can easily be compensated for.

Your school choices are pretty good.
As your concern is about founding employment afterwards, I would say you should target European schools as there getting a work visa is pretty easy

Hence you should target school: LBS, LSE, HEC , ESSEC , EDHEC.

You should definitely consider applying to universities in Canada and Singapore as well. They've got pretty good MFin courses as well.
The more, the merrier

In Canada, you should target: Queens, Schulich, McGill, HEC Montreal
In Singapore, you should target: SMU, NUS, NTU

You have a pretty decent profile and can get admission to your dream university.

All you need to do is bring out yourself and your value in your essay and SOP and draft a killer application.

If you would like, we can help you with your application process.
We have helped over 5000 students get admit into their dream schools.

Hey gurpratapthind1,
- Your profile is pretty good
- Your GPA is excellent
- Your GRE scores are more than enough
- Your extracurriculars are also impressive
Be sure to mention all your extracurricular activities and provide adequate certifications if possible.
- As you mentioned, you only have initial work experience
Can you tell me in which sector and company did you work

Most MFin schools require an adequate year of work experience, preferably in a similar sector.
As you don’t have much work experience, you would need to highlight your other skills.
Explain the roles and responsibilities you handled in your organisation.
What values did you add, how did it benefit the company etc.

All in all, your profile is pretty good, and you can definitely get admission to your dream university.

You plan to apply to Bocconi, Vanderbilt, McMaster University, ESADE, Stockholm School of Economics.

These are pretty great schools, but I would also recommend you to apply to HEC, LBS, USC Marshall
As they are some of the top universities globally, you can surely get admitted there.

Remember to build a strong and compelling application explaining why you are the perfect candidate in your essay and SOP.
You need to understand that thousands of students would be applying for the same course you want to study.
To stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of admission, you will need a killer application.

We have helped over 5000 students get admit into their dream schools.
We can help build a strong profile and with school selection.

Hey zannablanca,
I would like to say to have a pretty good profile here, especially your extracurriculars.
This definitely highlights your hard-working skills and your passion as an entrepreneur.
Your volunteering work will definitely shine in your application, so include all your extracurriculars and provide any certification you might have.

Your GPA is good and as you mentioned, you graduated six months prior with valedictorian, which shows your academic excellence.
Any school would be happy to have you.

Your GMAT scores as of now are pretty decent. You can get admission to your dream school.
But as you said you are considering retaking, you can. Aim to increase your score by 20-30 points, which should be enough.

Overall your profile is perfect. You lag only in one requirement, your work experience.

You have less than a year's worth of work experience, and most MFin programs require at least 1-2 years of work experience.
But it's not a major issue and can be easily compensated for

Your association with known companies is a plus point. You need to build a strong and convincing application.
So that the admissions committee overlook your insufficient work experience.

We have helped over 5000 students get admit into their dream schools.
We can help build a strong profile, and with school selection.

Hey saloni2303,
As you mentioned, you have prior experience in the finance sector and that too in a well-known brand, this shows your nook in the finance sector.
Having won awards as well, I would recommend you to pursue your Masters in Finance.

Some common eligibility criteria of top schools for MFin are:
- GMAT (690+)
- GPA (4+)
- Work experience (1-3 years preferably in the finance sector)
But these requirements vary from school to school.

Your GPA is pretty decent. You have work experience as well.
As you plan to give GMAT, try to aim and score 680+

But if you can’t score sufficiently in your GMAT, don’t worry; there are plenty of schools with no GMAT requirements or schools where the GMAT score required is not that high.
You can apply there as well.

Some top schools in the US you should apply for:
- MIT Sloan
- UC Berkeley
- UCLA
- NYU

You should also consider applying to some European universities

If you need assistance with selecting your ideal school, we would be happy to help you in your study abroad journey.
We have helped over 5000 students get admit into their dream schools.
We can help build a strong profile, and with school selection.

Hey Stefan16661,
Firstly I would like to address you have done a pretty good job in school selection and dividing them according to your preference.

I see you have your heart set to study in Canada. Great choice Canada is one of the most desirable study abroad destinations for students due to its academic excellence and employability rates.

But don’t just try your luck in Canada. There are plenty of PR-friendly countries you can apply to, such as New Zealand, Singapore, Ireland, Australia, and Germany.

I would recommend you consider applying to these countries as well and apply to the following universities: FSFM, WHU, TCD

Some US school recommendation: Brandeis, Vanderbilt (Owen), Princeton, NYU

Please mention your current GPA and GMAT score so I can evaluate your profile better and give you ideal school recommendations.

You have work experience in the finance sector, that is good.
However, don’t forget to mention your roles and responsibilities in your organisation in your SOP.

Mfin itself is a pretty great degree. It will definitely open many career opportunities for you, as you already have work experience in the finance sector, it shows you are really passionate about this field.
But still, if you are confused about whether you should pursue any other course, get on a one on one call with industry experts.
And let them clear all your queries.

Hey Hwsm7,

There are many parameters on which your application will be evaluated:
- GPA
- Test scores (GMAT, GRE, IELTS, etc.)
- Work experience
- Essays
- CV
- Letter of Recommendation
- Interview
Let’s breakdown your profile accordingly.

GPA- your GPA is pretty low. GPA is one of the key parameters of your application, but it can be compensated for with your overall application

GRE- Your GRE scores are pretty good. No need for hassle here.

Work Experience- your work experience is pretty decent. Your association with NGOs is a plus point. Don’t forget to mention this in your essay and SOP.
Explain your roles and responsibilities in the organisation you worked for.

You need to stand out from the hundreds of applicants, which can only happen through your application.
Build a strong application and a compelling essay and SOP, explaining why you are the perfect candidate for their program.

You have a pretty good profile here. You just lag in one parameter, your GPA.
But don’t worry, with your overall application, it can be easily compensated for.

Your target schools are pretty great, and you should definitely apply to them.
I’m going to recommend you a few other schools which have a great MFin program that you should consider targeting:

- Cambridge (Judge)

- UCLA
- Bocconi

Hey Ace14,
I must say you have a pretty good profile here, your GPA is pretty good.
You have a decent work experience, and your extracurricular activities are impressive.
They showcase your leadership and hardworking skills.

I see you have volunteering experience as well. Do not forget to mention this in your SOP.
Volunteering will definitely shine in your profile.

Your target schools are HEC Paris and ESADE. These are considered the top schools for MFin globally and yes GMAT is an essential requirement there.

As you mentioned, you plan to give GMAT and apply in Round 4 deadlines.
I must inform you that only 30-35% seats are available in the fourth round of admission.
So yes, you have a good shot but you need to explain how you are different from the other 70-80% of the already admitted class.

You need to explain your leadership and hardworking skills as well and how you can add value to the university.
Explain your roles and responsibilities in the organisation you worked for and what value did you add there.

All in all your profile is pretty decent and you can get admission in your school of choice.
To increase your admission chances, you need to aim and score 700+ in your GMAT.

I would recommend you start preparing your application right away.

Hi aanya2000 ,

Let us take a look at the aspects most relevant for an MSc Fin applicant at top schools

• academic focus: Decent GPA and GMAT score. I specifically feel good about your Q50.

• Proof of enthusiasm and motivation for study of the subject :

What I like about your profile is that you have an Economics background and work experience in corporate finance. To give context around your choice of métier, you could talk about being passionate about business studies and finance since early, and supplement your interest with examples of courses or internships you did.

• Understanding, experience and appreciation of the subject through real-life applications and projects:

For this, you can leverage insights from your internships at the asset management company (investment banking), the brokerage firm (portfolio management) and the FMCG MNC (financial planning)

• Super curriculars – what supplementary books, articles, research papers, news papers you read.
What podcasts you listen to? How these activities support and compliment your interest in the subject?

I advise you to cover this point well in your sops

• Extra Curriculars
You were actively involved in university and in community initiatives.
Talk about the transferrable skills from these experiences that will help you achieve goals as a future business leader

Other points to keep in mind
• Show originality and thought process in your application
• Show active engagement with the target school

If you wish to seek professional guidance do reach out.

Best wishes
