Hi,

Answering your questions as below:
1. I see that you have shared your score - GRE: 321 (164Q, 157V). Though there is no section wise average or range declared by the school, it is safe to assume that it would still be benchmarked. I think a slight push to your quantitative score would position you more competitively. The overall score is definitely considered. It is safe to assume that being close to the school average GRE of 328 is a good target score.

2. For the ISB PGP application process till the previous admission cycle you were required to submit one letter of recommendation preferably professional. An academic LOR is not a requirement of the process.

Hi,Tanishk1234,

Thank you for your post!

First, I would like to say you have a decent GMAT score and a good amount of relevant work experience. Moreover, you did well adding more about your academic statistics to back your profile. However, since you belong to an overrepresented pool, a score of 720-730+ would increase your chances at ISB, Tepper, LSB, Kelley, and Mccombs.

You did a fine job mentioning each aspect of your work experience. Your accomplishments highlight your leadership and problem solving quality of yours. The same goes for your ECA; it’s efficient and diverse. All you need to do is mention the challenges faced, leadership roles played, the impact generated, and the relevant skills developed through your ECAs to bank upon them! In addition, stories related to your off-road trip to the Himalayas will help you start an interesting conversation with the AdComs. Regarding your post-mba goals, I want you to understand that defining an innovative & relevant post-MBA goal is one of the major aspects of an applicant’s profile. Hence you would require to define both your short-term and long-term goals by linking them to your past experiences.

All in all, you do have a decent profile and have a shot at McCombs, Kelly, and Tepper. Applying in early rounds could definitely help secure a spot in the top 10 US B-Schools. For your reference, I suggest you read How to strengthen your MBA application for Round 1 MBA? you will get some beneficial insights. You are a relevant applicant with a robust profile and have a good chance at the top MBA program. If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further help you with your profile-building strategy; feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Hello Tanishk1234 thanks for sharing your profile details with us. Hope you are doing well

I like that you have a product development background (non-tech) since this type of role generally brings a lot of exposure in terms of stakeholder management (often international in the automotive domain), production stakeholders, marketing teams, supply chain, R&D, and so on (in my own experience in the automotive sector).
Since in product development you are at the epicenter of all new project initiatives related to the product, it would be impactful to convey in applications, your experience in situations where you were faced with an uphill task of expediting projects, meeting deadlines with limited resources, resolving conflicts between stakeholders, influencing senior management to take suitable decisions, mentoring teams leveraging your subject expertise and so on. Your professional achievements are noteworthy and if presented well, will make a good case to pivot to the most popular industries post-MBA (consulting/strategy, tech, and analytics, general mgt).

Your GMAT is less than impressive for an otherwise very promising profile. How consistently did you perform on the mocks? Do you think you have 20-30 points up your sleeve and can take another shot at GMAT? If you can, your chances of getting an admission would go up drastically especially since you even have LSB and ISB on your list. I am also curious to know why do you have LBS on your list, you may want to evaluate your fit well before you apply.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to discuss about your profile in detail.

Warm regards

Greeting,

I am an ISB Alum, CO15, and have been assisting applicants to get into global business schools since then.

For the ISB program, a minimum GMAT score of 710+ is ideal. You need to focus on your extracurriculars since it seems dated. There also seems to be a lack of leadership roles in your profile. It would be good if you could list the work projects and initiatives you have undertaken in recent years. ISB looks for a strong profile with good extracurriculars and leadership roles Along with the GMAT score. It is essential that you present a strong application with clear indications of what impacts have achieved in your endeavours.

Please feel free to contact us @crackadmission.com for any other queries you might have.

Hi,

Hi Mekhs,
Sharing the feedback on your profile below:

Academics: 10th, 12th and GPA keep you well within a competitive pool.
GMAT score: Also within range - you can try a re take if you feel you can increase the score. However this 720 will not be a road block - in fact will support your application quite well.
Work Ex: 4 years with an International investment bank is also a competitive work profile.
Extracurriculars : Past extracurriculars do reflect a well rounded profile, but the ones given here are not recent. It is understandable that everyone does not have a lot of time to pursue extracurriculars while they pursue their career. However you can add some recent engagement - you can consider continuing any of your extracurriculars/ hobbies to a next level if you have the time. It will be good.
Story: The story that you want to share and your goals post MBA - i.e. essays, application & interview would all be important for the seat that you aspire. Would suggest that you should spend ample time to work on all aspects of your application.

All the best!

Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hello!

Please help me in evaluating my profile for ISB and what my chances for selection might be. Here are my details -

Age/Gender - 28/Male

GMAT - Expected 750 (+/- 20 based on mocks)

Education -
  • CA (2021) - First attempt, but 5 years gap in between eligibilty and actually clearing final exams, marginally missed out on an AIR
  • LLB (2019) - Government Law College, Mumbai - Ranked top 1% in the University
  • B. Com (2014) - Institute of Distance and Open Learning, University of Mumbai - Ranked top 10 in the course of 6k+ students
  • 12th (2011) - 81% - Maharashtra State Board
  • 10th (2009) - 86% - Maharashtra State Board

Work Ex -
  • Founder/CEO of a seed funded mobile gaming startup, since Jan 2021.
  • Legal/financial consultant to a few SMEs in the housing and wine industry.
  • Co-founded a fantasy sports website in 2018 with IIT/IIM grads. Shut down in 2020. No salary, was paid in equity.
  • 3 years CA articleship at a small CA firm.

I'm primarily concerned about -
  • quality of my undergrad (since it was a correspondence course)
  • no metric for establishing my rank in CA and university courses
  • amount of work ex (whether 3 years of CA articleship and 2 years of unpaid startup experience would count)
  • quality of my work ex (although with big responsibilities, it has been in small startups)

Thank you!

Hi adityaroongta, the motivation for each course or professional pursuit needs to be clearly portrayed in the essays since as it is depicted now, it appears patchy and impulsive. Your achievements are great, you need to lucidly spell out the reasons for taking up for initiatives for the application to appeal to ISB. All the best and I hope you achieve your target score! In case you need help with essays, do reach out.

Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Leadership roles during undergrad and at EY will have to be significantly fleshed up in the essays for the profile to be competitive given the 710 GMAT. It is a good score but things tend to get extremely competitive there. Do you have the bandwidth to retake the exam and increase the score up to 740 / 750? That would put you in a more competitive position. In any case, even if you cannot retake the exam, I do feel you should give it a shot. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out.
Best!
