We are talking about a square rod. The dimensions of the rod are 2ft*2ft*whateverthelenghtoftherodis. The 2ft*2ft is what gives us the 4 square foot cross section. If we want a volume of 8.4 cubic feet, we will need 2.1 feet of length (volume = lwh = 2.1(2)(2)). Okay, 2.1 feet of length.

360 feet per hour is 6 feet per minute, which is 1 foot every 10 seconds. We need 21 seconds to get 2.1 feet.

Answer choice A.

Thank you. It wasn't clear to me earlier that it's a continuous rod, thought they were talking about a shape, which cut diagonally will have square cross-section. Any suggestion to avoid such confusion in exam?

I don't think GMAC would have a question like this without a diagram to show what they're describing. So, carry on!!
