Say, you have 3^5 - 2*3^4 and you want to take something common out of them.

\(3^5 - 2*3^4\)
= \(3*3^4 - 2*3^4\)
= \(3^4 ( 3 - 2)\)

Similarly, if you have \(3^n - 2*3^{n-1}\)
= \(3*3^{n-1} - 2*3^{n-1}\)
= \(3^{n-1}(3 - 2)\)

In the question asked, there is a bracket to the power of 9

\(9^{(\frac{1}{2}n-1)}\)

\(= 3^{2 * \frac{n-2}{2}}\)

\(= 3^{n-2}\)

Back to the equation

\(3^{7-n} = 3^n - 6 * 3^{n-2}\)

\(3^{7-n} = 3^n - 6 * \frac{3^n}{9}\)

\(3^{7-n} = 3^n - 2 * \frac{3^n}{3}\)

\(3^{7-n} = 3^n ( 1 - \frac{2}{3})\)

\(3^{7-n} = \frac{3^n}{3}\)

\(3^{7-n} = 3^{n-1}\)

7-n = n-1

2n = 8

n = 4

n+2 = 6

Answer = D
