I'm a few years out from applying to b-school, but I'm mulling over how I can develop extracurriculars that admissions officers would find impressive.
Aside from non-profit/volunteerism, what do schools look favorably upon? When you aren't at work, how do you use your free time?
Girls, baseball, Sabermetrics, working out
Old post, but I find it hard to ignore this one.
Hanging out with girls is not something one will include in the application, so I didn't get that comment. Anyhow, its not relevant.
I wanted to touch upon the other activities mentioned here. These are fun activities and only help to show how you indulge your free time. While you continue to participate in activities that hold your interest or you are passionate about, its helpful to take them up at a larger scale where you can motivate others to join you, start a team, captain a team etc. (say baseball) or learn some challenging skills (say sabermetrics).
Volunteering is a great way of contributing your knowledge and skills for the benefit of others and these translate to a bigger impact on the resume. That said, its a good idea to sustain both kinds of activities.
