Re: Most graduates of art schools go on to support themselves [#permalink]
I say E.

If they go with the intention of having art careers, but they don't end up doing that, then this might lead to doubts about how well the schools are preparing them.

I say C.
E confirms that the students join art schools to get a job in art, but this has nothing to do with the purpose of an art school.
C is more relevant to the argument

Actually C,D,E can all "strengthen the author’s criticism of art schools"
But C strengthens the most.
I think it is a matter of personal choice here... OA can be different.
Anyway.. would be nice to verify once....OA???

the author is criticising the quality of education and not the students partaking in this education, hence to strengthen the argument we must strongly draw criticism to the education provided by arts schools and its relevance in the working world.

C strengthens the authors argument by showing that the purpose of the education in arts is to eventually lead to jobs in the field of arts which it has failed to do.

How in the world does a student's intention question a whole art curriculum??...Beats me.

E is irrelevant...If u intend to become a CEO of a company(big dreams) and end up as an employee would u blame ur college for that.

C is the correct answer.

Author has issues with the institutions not with the students. D and E are more related to students.

Only C, IMHO, clearly states that critics/author is right and schools are not living for what they designed for.

nervousgmat wrote:
Most graduates of art schools go on to support themselves with a variety of odd jobs that have little or nothing to do with the graduates’ artistic training. This has led to major doubts regarding how well the art schools are preparing their students for careers in art.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the author’s criticism of art schools?

a) The curricula of most art schools tend to reflect the needs of the art world.

b) There are some graduates of art schools who go on to careers within the art world.

c) The purpose of an art school education is to ensure that students will be able to secure jobs in their fields.

d) People who intend to earn their livings in the field of art choose to go to art school to increase the quality of their work.

e) Students attend art schools with the intention of earning their livings in the art field.

I am doubtful about the OA. Please include your reasoning with your answer

C for me.
REasoning; premise talks about careers and the whole argument seems to revolve around career in art after college. C strengthens this by stating that pupose of the school is that students are able to get jobs.
