Is there an online registration form for Stanford visits? If so, I can't seem to locate it. Or do you just show up the day of?

Hi All,

Stanford, Haas, and some other schools, has a One Packet Policy, which means that all supplementary material has to be sent in only 1 package. So my question is, if the transcript is sent from the undergrad uni, the GMAT score sent from GMAC/Pearsonvue, and maybe one or more of the recommenders cannot do online and have to sent the rec via regular mail, how can this be in one packet?

Or do you have to get the undergrad school, GMAC, and recommender to all send everything to you, and then you put it together in one packet and send it out?

hrm... I didn't know about this "one packet rule". I thought that only applied to stuff you have to send to them? Berkeley specifically said to have the official transcripts sent to their address from your institutions... I just did that yesterday... oops!

Re: Calling Stanford Fall 2008 Applicants [#permalink]
I have a question on the Stanford apps ? Do we upload one word document for all the questions as a one seven page doc or do we upload a different document for each of the questions ? i am asking this for the following reason.

if we upload it as one seven page document, we will be able to write 2 1/2 pages for essay A and then use half the page for one of essay C. I couldn't find this info on the site. All it says is that it has to be a total of 7 pages. Sorry if this info is already there and I have stupidly overlooked the same.

Thanks in advance for your response

I believe it's one document of 7 pages max. You can shorten one essay to give more space for another. The page suggestions for each essays are just that, suggestions. Hope that helps!

no need to confirm... it's right here:
https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/mba/admissi ... ities.html

(copied here for everyone's benefit)

Essay Format and Instructions

Your answers for all three essay questions must not exceed 7 pages in total.

Each of you has your own story to tell, so you may allocate these 7 pages among the essays in the way that is most effective for you.

Below are some guidelines but you may write as much or as little as you like on any question as long as you do not exceed 7 pages total.

* Essay A: 3 pages
* Essay B: 2 pages
* Essay C: 1 page each
* Use a 12-point font, double spaced, and make sure it is easy to read.
* Indicate which essay question you are answering at the top of each page.
* Number all pages.
* After you upload your documents to your application, preview each document to ensure that the formatting is true to the original.
* Save a copy of your essays.

How bad an idea is it to try and adjust your margins? My essays are exceeding the 7 page limit by several pages. I was able to get them to fit within the page limit by decreasing the margins to .5 all around.
Although I'm pleased with my essays overall I am still editing and will try and get them down so I can increase the margins. However, what do you guys think about it? Is this okay to do?

Am I the only one having issues with the page limit thing?

Good luck to all!

I think a slight tweaking might be acceptable. Going down to .5 will clearly be noticed.

yeah, 0.5 is a bit extreme... 0.7-0.8 might be acceptable...

if you're going over by that much, you really need to scour your essay and remove any non critical examples, even if they're "nice to have" in there.

hey ppl,

what fonts are yu using?? Times new roman seems to be the smallest to me + am tinkering abt with line spacing a bit - How can they do this !!! 7 pages - 4 essays - no fair.

Th satn ad com kept saying that they've asked only for three essays this time around - they consider the short essays to be one.

question 1 is the reason I haven't started Stanford apps yet...

3 pages is roughly 1200 words, not too bad for Question 1. 800 words for question 2 is only 200 fewer than the one for Haas, also not extremely bad.

400 words each for Question 3 is more than enough, considering Haas had questions that were 250 words.

My response to q1 touches on my values and how I formed them and have adhered to them. Trying to write in a casual tone and including examples that illustrate my personality, character, etc.

Does that help at all, or too vague?

Re: Calling Stanford Fall 2008 Applicants [#permalink]
definitely helps. talked to a current student today, and he gave me some good ideas... two approaches. one is to find a unifying theme of your life motivations and write it that way. The other is to look at what themes you want to portray to each business school, see what's left out of Essays B and C, and try to develop a theme for Essay A using the remaining things you want to talk about your candidacy...

Yeah - that's seems like a good approach too. I'm trying to fit in extra information about myself, but finding that it's easy to get too off from the question at hand.

Well, that's what the delete key is for... now, back to writing.
