If that's what he said... you have your proof.

450 is too much.

It's risky to go with 450 words because after reading 25 straight 400 word essays, the adcomm will spot a 450 word essay easily. Now 1100 words in a 1000 word essay would be a little bit more difficult to spot.

also... verified/attensted/notarized transcript copies work

Called up cornell ad-com, talked to person, was told that they accept notarized photocopies of transcripts.

If anyone here is from non US institution, a quick stop at any UPS store, 10$ for notary services, and hey presto!! all intl transcript headaches solved.

But if you have the offical transcript in a sealed envelope with you, just send it across. No Notary required for that.

What I have heard from my cousin in Wharton is that - It is okie to overshoot the limit in one of the essays by 100-200 words (on the base of 1000 words) but make sure you do so in only 1 not all. All others should be under the limit.

Guys. My TOEFL speaking score is a stupid 24 :-( [114/20]

Cornell ***recommends*** a score of 25 in each section of TOEFL. Do you guys think I should address this somewhere.

I am planning not to address it, because I am planning to use the optional essay to talk about other things that "add" to my application.

Just checking what you guys think. Any thoughts?

prasad, you are off by just one point, and I am sure your other scores and activities (Including interview) will clarify to the adcom about your communication skills. So I agree with you that you should not use the valuable optional essay space for this.

Dumb question time:

Does everything on the application checklist have to be "complete" for the application to be considered for the first round?

Currently, I have recommendations as not received and test scores as unverified. But I over night-ed the reco's and they were signed for day before the deadline and I purchased an additional test report back in September.
