Duke is a great school, honestly my Round 1 was full of three ultra elites (MIT, GSB, and Kellogg). My R2 was going to be my slightly more safe round with elites and a near elite, Ross and Duke, and then CMU Tepper.
I think R1 is where you put your high hopes and R2 is where you go slightly easier. R1 is an easier round, most schools wont admit to that but it seems like every stat you can find on it backs that up. If you applied to several top 5 schools in R1 unless you have gotten interview invites already I would go for Duke. Spread the risk out a little...that is unless you are willing to wait a year if you dont get in and will reapply.
Thanks man. I only got 1 interview in R1 with Chicago GSB, but I don't know how good that is since most ppl got GSB interviews. In R2 i'm going for UCLA and Wharton (long long shot) for sure, plus 1 more. I was thinking Duke, but then I looked at the employment reports and it is significantly weaker than Kellogg, although still pretty good. So my original plan was to go Kellogg since the deadline is Jan 11th or so, so it'll be after the other schools so I would have more time to write a better app. Duke would be easier to get in but deadline is same as others (Jan2/3) so it'll be slightly rushed.
I am quite torn. Anyway, I gotta think about this more. Thanks though.
