Male/Indian/IT/27 - 3+ years of exp.
3.7 GPA, B.Tech in computer science.
Planning to apply for 2009 fall. Yet to take GMAT, targeting for >700.
Before IT, worked in a non-IT small scale industry, did well there, but moved to IT due to other constraints. Moreover I did not know that IT is a drawback for MBA in USA.
Example for Leadership/community service: -- All these are outside work/academics:
10 day Social service – on behalf of government -- Lead a team of 10 students to educate the common people in under developed villages (but lost the proof of certificate)
10 day Social Service – on behalf of National organization -- Lead a team of 50 candidates to educate the common people in under developed villages (but lost the proof of certificate)
10 day National integration Camp – lead a team of over 10 candidates from my region, where all the national level candidates meet, work towards integrating various cultures, and improve culture, living style, aim for the union/integrity.
10 day camp lead a team of 50 candidates.
Did service 3 years in a national level organization, lead around 100 candidates in final year, qualified and awarded with highest grade certificate.(motto of this organization To Develop Character,Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country. To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.)
Extracurricular: -- in college
Serviced as “Welfare secretary” during college, and received appreciation award for managing well in this position. I was elected anonymously for this position, a first anonymous election in my college history.
Represented my college at the national level paper presentation contest 5 times. I was an example for the juniors in my college and lots of students started representing the paper contests after me. I am the first person to start this, encourage others, and make them participate at contests. Now, after me, lots of representations have been happening....
Regarding work:
3+ years of IT exp in MNC, (2 yrs in USA), currently working at client site.
Lead a team of around 25 people during design, worked as Business Analyst. Thugh I worked in a It company, my role is towards business development (Initiallly as Business Analyst, later moved to Business Development area where I look for winning new clients for my company.)
Received best performer award for one quarter.
Did not concentrate further on work as I am aspiring for MBA and IT doesn't help much in MBA.
Games and Sports:
Shuttle badminton, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket. Used to play these games regularly. Though, never represented at high level competitions as I have other responsibilities mentioned above. Still I play games regularly to have my mind afresh and active.
post MBA aspirations:
not yet decided concretely, as I have some more time to think. May be entrepreneurship/tech, Finance, or Healthcare. (I currently work in Healthcare related client). Right after Post MBA, I would like to work for couple of years as I don’t have enough financial support to start my own. By making contacts thru MBA and post-MBA job, I wanted to start y own firm.
Why MBA
With current financial support, I am not in a position to start my own firm. With IT background I can not change the field either. MBA will make me a path into new field, and I am sure I can get financial support from somebody with a good MBA.
Questions:
What are the typical Indian points on me that I better not highlight? (Of course the major one being Indian/IT/Male)
What are odds that I can highlight?
What I need to do to showcase some more odds to improve my profile for selectors.
What schools I can get with current profile, and improved profile suggested by you.
I am yet to read your book; I might have some more positive points to highlight after reading your book.
Thanks.
