Re: passage 21 bernard bailyn has recently reinterpreted the [#permalink]
Took 15 minutes :( (3.5 minutes for reading passage, but had to go back to passage for every question)
My choices:
C
D
B
A
D
E
C
E

After checking across with Anand's choices, I found that for Q 1 Anand is right! but for following Q I differ:
3 and 4

For 3rd, author of the passage says that he agree to Bailyn's few point for fourth proposition but not on all. That's why I select choice B.

For 4th it is clearly mentioned in the passage at line 38.

For the 8th I really cannot argue on that! not sure abt my answer!

4. A
5. D
6. E
7. C
8. A

I feel fairly confident about the first 7, #8 I'm not sure about

15 minutes to do the whole thing -- too much time for a passage that's quite straightforward

15 min
1-D
2-D
3-B
4-A
5-D
6-E
7-C
8-E

For 8th question, last sentence reveals the answer:
Quote:
thus, it is in
the west that a peculiarly american political culture
began, among colonists who were suspicious of
authority and intensely antiaristocratic

bailyn overemphasize the experience of migrants in New England at the expense of what was happening in the West

Quote:
it is true, as bailyn claims, that high culture in
the colonies never matched that in england. but what
(40) of seventeenth-century new england, where the settlers
created effective laws, built a distinguished university,
and published books? bailyn might respond that new
england was exceptional. however, the ideas and insti-
tutions developed by new england puritans had power-
(45) ful effects on north american culture

I see, last one was a bit tougher

A small question: How realistic is it to get 8 question on a single passage?
Also, what should have been an ideal time to solve this passage assuming it had say 4 questions?

nope, not possible. I think a good estimate is about 5 questions max for RC. Ideal time for 4 questions would be 6-8 minutes.
