Calling all USC Marshall Fall 2008 Applicants

Yeah I thought it was pretty funny to hear from both schools on the same day. I have also applied to Northwestern, Berkeley and Stanford (see any similarities kryzac ) so I am definitely still waiting to see what happens with the rest of my apps, but obviously very excited heading into the holidays.

hello! i'm new to the forum. been finding it super useful.

i just submitted my app for R2 for USC.

does anyone know what the usual turnaround time is for usc to review apps? how long do ppl have to wait before hearing ANYTHING back (whether it's an interview invite or ding) after they have submitted their apps? the website says notifications for R2 is on march 30?! i really hope i don't have to wait that long...

Question about the application:
How did you submit your essays?

Did you just create one document that contained all of the essays and upload that?

In my case, I submitted my application in the early round (11/1 deadline) on 10/31. I received an interview invite on 12/4 and interviewed on 12/6. Although they said that the notification deadline was supposed to be 12/15, when I got the interview request, they changed it a little by saying "by 12/15, the admissions office will notify applicants of this early Round if they have been denied, waitlisted or scheduled for an interview". I was expecting to get an admit or deny decision by 12/15 so not sure what their deadlines mean in later rounds. Having said that, I did receive an admit on 12/21 so that was great surprise. Hopefully the process moves faster as they get into later rounds.

I ended up creating one document that contained all of the essays and then uploaded. There really weren't any instructions, but I assume that is what they wanted us to do. I just made sure to have the questions on the tops of the pages and a page break between essays to make it clear.

OK great. That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure.

thanks red_s4! and congrats on your admit! 1 month seems like a pretty long turnaround time to me...although usc might get a lot of apps. i also applied to cornell, and they got back to me with an interview invite within 2 weeks after submitting.

i just realized i never filled out that financing section of the app! i know it's not required for u.s. citizens, but does it look kind of shady that i left it blank? should i contact them and see if i could edit it??

did anyone else fill that page out?

Are there any Round1 (Dec 1 deadline) applicants who received interview invites yet? Aren't the decisions supposed to go out on/around Feb2?

I thought I would make a competitive profile for USC (700/female/Masters in Comp. Engg/4 yrs exp.) but, no love yet from adcom. Paranoia is setting in with rejects piling on (3 so far). I think my essays are good, but I need some validation.

Kryzak, red_s4, congrats on your admits! Wondering if either of you would be able to review my USC essays and point out any glaring "asking-for-reject" messages.

What's the point of the 10 ID number that USC sends you?

I think its only purpose is if you need to correspond with the school, they ask that you include that number for identification purposes. I haven't used it other than when emailing the school.

I'm in for R2! Like a previous poster, I was really impressed when I visited. For my industry (entertainment) the Trojan alumni network cannot be beat. (and I'm saying that as a UCLA alum)
