Re: Each correctional facility in a certain state has the same [#permalink]

Statement 1:
Tells us range but no concrete value, so insufficient.

Statement 2:
Tells us about female interns, but does not say anything about male interns.

Combining both statements:

Does not give us any fruitful information either. Because Lockwood might have more female interns but does not gurantee how many male interns are going to be, they may be 18% , 19%, 20%, 21%. They can even be in fraction like 20.5%.

So question cannot be answered, Answer E.

it's D and I 'll show you why:

1. tells us that our facility has 22% of the total female population and also has b/w 18 and 22% of the total population. it follows that 18<100/n<22 where n is the number of facilities. so n must be 5 and our facility will have 100/5, 20% of the total population. thus,

0.22f+xm/100=0.20(f+m). solving : 0.02f=(0.20-x/100)m and x must be less than 20

suff

2. since the facilities must have an average of 100/n < 22 of the population, n is 5 and the average percentage of male must be 20. since our facility has 22% of females, which is higher than the average, it must also have less than 20% of males in order to be on average. suff
