Re: Calling UCLA Fall 2008 Applicants [#permalink]
A useful tip that I got from the local pimp Avi: Take the FlyAway bus(departing every 30 min) from the airport(LAX) to Westwood. Westwood is at the entrance of UCLA. From there, a 10 min walk will take you to Anderson. Also, this costs only $4 each way. Way less expensive than a $40 cab.

I got an interview! Yay! This is a surprise. I have the option of doing it on campus, and since I've never been there, if it doesn't cost me a million dollars...I think I should go there. Thoughts, anyone? Also, how tough is it to get to the campus from the airport? Must I rent a car? Are taxis convenient? Is there any kind of public transportation I could use (don't laugh, I know it's LA, I'm just asking). Please reply ASAP, and many thanks for any and all help/suggestions/etc...

Is there an interview slot for every day during the week or is it only on certain days? I want to plan in advance before requesting a slot... anyone?

Does anyone have any stats on how many people were waitlisted in round 2/how many people have been accepted off the waitlist so far? Just trying to get a feel for what my chances are....

I think UCLA provides the best idea of any school on what your chances are. The FAQ document attached with the waitlist letter provides a pretty good idea. As someone waitlisted at 4 schools, it is the only program that provides such info on # waitlisted applicants, # accepted in recent past, etc. From my back of the envelope calculations, the worst case scenario is 1/5 (20%) and best case scenario is 2/5 (40%). I'm not sure if those are good numbers or bad numbers, but at least it's something to grab onto. Who knows if these are any near representative of other schools...Columbia-please call me :)

Well, I asked for the week of the 21st, on campus, and they had interview slots available every day except Thursday, which was completely booked.

Would interviewing next week versus the week of the 21st change my chances of getting in?
I'd like some time to prepare but if putting off the interview will hurt me then I'd like to know.

Thanks!

yes, if you interview next week you will get in for sure, but if you wait until the 21st, you will be rejected, for sure. I know because I know.

haha, but all kidding aside, gmatnoob, don't worry, the week you interview will NOT affect your chances of getting in. Visiting the campus (if you haven't yet) will make more of a difference helping you get in.

From all the chatter on this thread, Clear Admit Wiki, and BW, what I've gathered is that you REALLY need to know "Why Anderson", because UCLA, as good as it is, is often used as a backup school for people who are applying to other elites. Other than that, it seems like any other B-School interview. Know why you need an MBA at this point in your career, be clear about why Anderson fits your particular needs so well, and then be prepared to throw in how you personally will contribute to the Anderson community. At least, this is what I've gleaned, and what I will be doing in my interview.

And if you already have two admits, it sounds like you may already know what you're doing! :-D

What generally constitutes how you will contribute personally? Club participation, class participation, something else?

Chon - found this on January '08 chat transcript w/UCLA Director of Admissions...

Tips for those invited to interview: Do your homework! Know that resume. Know the school. Be able to articulate why it is that you want to be here at UCLA. Show some passion and enthusiasm.
