GREAT POST bee! I'll probably put my own version of this up once this is all said and done, but this one is brilliant! :)

Also, it has been place in the vault, here:

Quote:
After I finished around 80% of the Kellogg essays, I moved on to the next school. After I finished 80% of the next school, I moved on to the next. And so on. Along the way, I found new ideas which then I used to improve my earlier essays. The process goes back and forth and seemed like a neverending one.

Pretty much the method I highly recommend too. Good to see it worked for other people! :)

Excllent post bee!

I'm tempted to do a 'sprinters' version. Seeing as that's what I had to do to get applications in. How to complete GMAT, School research, Applications in a short time..... I guess it might be useful to anyone who only decides to apply late.

toga, I think your "sprinter's" version should be useful for those who decide late that they want to apply. Obviously you have been successful and it will help future applicants. :)

Lol. Toga, I actually should do the sprinter's version as well.. That post was the "IDEAL" version, obviously I didn't do it the ideal way.. :)

Holy crap, I feel so behind. My GMAT prep course starts May 11 and ends July 20. I knew I should have taken the prep course sooner...I just didn't have the money...arrgh. Now I'm getting stressed..hah

Don't worry Victory MBA! I did the start prepping in May, end in July take GMAT July 26th route and it worked well for me. I spent all August prepping my story and researching schools. Then September prepping my first app/refining my story. Then October in a furious maddening pace to turn out my other two applications (then one more app for January).

Probably could have used that extra month or two, but would have wasted it anyway ;)

don't worry, I started my GMAT Studying July 4th, took the test August 3rd, so you're WAY ahead of me. I did have to postpone Kellogg apps till R2 (which turned out to be a good thing since Kellogg doesn't give deadline extensions), but otherwise, I think it all turned out well. :)

Just START RESEARCHING the schools you're interested in NOW and visit some schools. If you get that out of the way before summer, and start thinking about your essays, you can do that concurrently with GMAT studying since your class is so long. :)

I don't mean to high jack this thread...so just one quick question...Is 2.5 months enough study time for the gmat? Should I schedule my test date for July 23 (3 days after the class ends)? Or should I give myself an extra month of study (schedule for August 11'ish?)

schedule it early, so if you bomb, you can take it one more time (you have to wait 30 days to do that). 2.5 months is more than enough if you study it a few hours a day and a few more hours on weekends. Overpreparation will only hurt you (in my opinion). Everyone is different, but you'll know at a point where you just want to take the test and be done with it. :)

Hey buddy, thats a question you should ask yourself. I'd suggest that you take the gmatprep tests and assess your current level. If you're scoring 700+ already then you'll probably be ok with 2 months (maybe even less).

You're at an advantage already against a lot of other people (like me). I didn't start GMAT prep until end of October/Early November, the exam was set for mid-November. I only started looking at MBA's mid-October.

Although having said that it probably won't encourage you because i probably got the lowest GMAT score of every regular who posts here

Thanks for the tips guys.

kryzak, I know exactly what you mean when you say over preparation could hurt you. I took the LSAT several years ago, and I believe I overprepped, and it actually hurt me. I took a 3 month long, very intense prep course (Testmasters). I was scheduled to take my test October 3...but a few nights before the exam I made the decision to postpone until the next test date, December 3. Those 2 extra months were a mind ****, and it sapped my energy and motivation. Needless to say...I understand the pittfalls of overprepping.

Okay, so prep yourself for that coveted interview invite. Re-read your applications and the school's website. The Clear Admit wiki or School Guide is another good starting point. Try to find friends who are willing to help you with mock interviews. But really, the key is to be yourself and know your stories well. Just make sure you get the basics right: why MBA? why X school? why now? goals? strengths & weaknesses?. And you're set.

Hi bee186, thanks for the excellent post! I am running a couple of months behind, retaking the GMAT early Sept.

Has anyone bought the CLEAR ADMIT SCHOOL GUIDES? Are they a good substitute for an exploratory campus visit?
