I guess it's true. I just called the admissions office and was told the same thing: 2 pages, single OR double spaced.

Also re-confirmed there is no separate essay for the MMM program. Just include your interest in the program in the "why Kellogg" part of the first essay.

Are any younger people (3 years or less of work experience at matricuation) throwing in apps for Kellogg this year?

I will have three years of experience in MC at matriculation. Are there any grounds to believe that relatively short working experiences will be a drawback at Kellogg (as compared to HBS, Stanford, etc.)?

I'll have 4 years at matriculation but am younger in that I'll be 24 at that time...hopefully they won't hold the age against me but think "cool! she's young and has 4 yrs WE!" (perhaps without the exclamation) :)

I met plenty of folks with 3 yrs experience at matriculation during the sell weekend. There are fewer people with only two years of experience, obviously. Anything less though is not ideal. I believe Kellogg values at least two years of experience.

One thing that confuses me about the Kellogg application - Part 2 is due 10/17/08 and it includes essays, all of your application information, etc. but it just mentions that you must send your recommenders the recommendation request by this date?

Does this mean that recommendations are not due by 10/17/08, and rather that they can be submitted later in October or even at some point in November? If this is so, it would take a lot of load off my recommenders and allow me to shoot for R1 :)

Under Part II, it says

" Register 2 recommenders and send the online Career Progress Survey"

The Kellogg recommendation form is called the 'Career Progress Survey' -- So I think Kellogg wants the recommendations submitted by 10/17.

Recommendations are "due" the day Pt II is due. However, all schools give you a little leeway since this isnt really 100% under your control. During questions an answers I think typically they admit they give several days after due dates for recommendations.

I still suggest you push your recommenders to be ontime since it reflects better on you.

That's the part I don't understand. Registering 2 recommenders and "sending" the career progress survey would indicate that I am just supposed to register them and send the survey over, not necessarily have the survey completed. I suppose riverripper's comment is probably correct?

Update: Just called them. River's right.

How much of a difference is there between Kellogg R1 vs. R2?

I believe all schools generally say something along the lines of all portions of the application are required to be completed by the deadline...The recommendations are part of the application so make sure they are in on time.

terp06, register your recommenders ASAP, give them the survey with 1-2 months of time, and make sure they send in the survey/letters before the Part II deadline. While the wording is confusing on the Kellogg website, I would not risk it, since I doubt the adcoms would be ok with a "but your website was confusing" excuse.

I'm going to be visiting Kellogg tomorrow - I won't be able to sit in on a class but hope to catch the informational session and Q/A with the admissions office folks. I'm excited - I'm looking forward to hanging out in the Evanston area a bit and seeing if the campus looks like it did +- 2 years ago (visited for friend's graduation). 8-)

Anyone else planning to be in the area tomorrow?

cheers,
ac.

I dont arrive in Evanston for a few more weeks but I know several other members of this site have already moved in. I am sure there are more than a few incoming students wandering around evanston these days.

Also 1Y is in session, did you check to see if you could get in a class visit. I believe you can sit in, so make sure you go to the admissions office and ask them. You can verify this information on their website under visits, they have days visits are available and what classes/times you can go to.

hey river - I did check about the 1Y classes - the Adm office said I could only sit in on the 8 and 10am Turbo Finance classes. Unfortunately, I'll be driving in and won't reach Chicago until about 10 am and will be too late to catch the class. :(

So! I revised my plan and will be visiting U-Chicago in the morning (hopefully getting to the 10:30 info session) and then will be going to Kellogg in the PM for the 2pm info session. Also, G in the office said she felt bad that I couldn't meet with anyone for lunch, and said she'd see if she could find someone for me to have coffee with after the session  So I might even meet a current student - woo. :)

Question regarding the application...

Do most people submit Part 1 as soon as they can? How quickly do you interview (on-campus) after you submit Part 1? Do you have to submit Part 2 before the actual interview or can you interview before Part 2 has been submitted?

Thanks!

Kellogg has a bunch of scheduled events coming up, you can find ones close to you. I think last years a lot were held at local Bain offices in big cities.
