Calling Stern/NYU Applicants

I got dinged off the waitlist this afternoon too.

Haven't been participating to this thread for ages - sorry if I missed a few episodes - but I can understand bsd's frustration. The guy travelled all the way from down under, put in a lot of effort and cash, and gets waitlisted. I personally understand his frustration, even though obviously an interview doesn't mean you'll be accepted.

There are a couple of things I didn't like about Stern (disclaimer: obviously this is just a personal opinion based on my experience only and does not mean that Stern students are evil, etc ):

First of all, having to pas the interview in NY only for R2 is a major obstacle for A LOT of international students. I was still considering doing the interview even after I got an answer from Wharton and Chicago, but the interview requisite was a major no-no. I'm not saying that the policy is good or bad, but it's clearly a barrier for international students. So when a guy spends more than 1000 euros just for an interview, he hopes that Stern will see how motivated he is.

Secondly, the answer delays were ridiculously long. I had an interview invite after getting the call from Wharton and Chicago. Maybe this is also part of the marketing scheme (must show a lot of love, must really focus on Stern only, etc. and again, this is perfectly fine) but it didn't work for me.

In conclusion, although I think I see what Stern is trying to do in terms of recruiting, I understand that people who put in a lot of effort and cash get frustrated when they don't get accepted. I can certainly imagine that people who get dinged / waitlisted begin to ask themselves: "Is Stern really worth all that effort after all? Coz it ain't Harvard!" I'm not saying that it's the right reaction, but I can see this happening.

OMG!!! CONGRATS navy01!!! Great to hear the news!

As much as I'd like to reapply to Columbia and apply to Wharton, I think I'm just going to go to NYU. My husband goes there and I'd like to get to school faster rather than later. We are now looking for aparatments in the city. Preterm starts August 19. I'll stay on the boards to let everyone knows how it's going.
