Does anyone know if the Optional Essay for Chicago has a word limit?

Generally, no, but typically people say 500 words is a good optional essay limit.

That said, in my year there was some question about having traveled abroad. It was clearly intended as a short answer type question, but I still submitted something like 700 words anyway.

Hey rhyme,
Is LPF always at the same location? When I went in Nov, 2007 after GSB Live it was at some lounge in downtown Chicago. You wouldn't happen to know the name of that place would you?

Last heard at the Wiener Circle:
Random Dude - "Hello, what's good today?"
Lady at the Window - "Your Mom. Next."

cue raucous laughter.

Everyone needs to go there after TNDC!

98% of the time it's here at school, sometimes when there are other events (like Alumni stuff or big CEO conversations etc) its downtown - I don't recall which lounge it was though, things tend to blur in grad school.

Sound right. When I went it was an alumni event. Kind of weird being a prospective in that situation because the last thing an alumus wants is to be bothered by a prospective applicant when they're looking to talk to current students, maybe even recruit.

For the community involvement section, how much space is everyone using? I've got 7-8 paragraphs (approx. 650 words) does anyone think this is too much?

I haven't seen any responses on this and am kind of curious myself. To me 650 words for this section seems a bit excessive as I would expect anything of major importance to be discussed in the essays.

Anyone?

Rhyme,
Regarding PPT presentations:

If I mention an activity that I'm heavily involved with in the application EC section, is it a bad idea to include it in my PPT presentation?

Namely, I'm involved with a literacy center and I've got pics from the graduation ceremony in my PPT. Acceptable or a no-no? Also, pics from an alumni association event (I'm president of the local chapter).
thanks

I'm in for R1 too. I'm close to finished with the first two essays. The ppt is throwing me for a loop though.
