Re: Calling all Duke (Fuqua) Fall 2009 applicants! [#permalink]
In your essays, are you referring to the program and degree as a Fuqua MBA or Duke MBA? I would think Fuqua, however in the long question they refer to it as a Duke MBA. (Upon graduation with your Duke MBA, you will be a leader of consequence...)

Thoughts?

The Duke MBA. We don't really say Fuqua all that often anymore.

Really? So when interviewing I should refer to it as a Duke MBA or attending Duke instead of Fuqua?

I always called it the Duke MBA, but I did use Fuqua a couple times. Actually, I just checked, I used it twice. Once when referring to a course and once when referring to the club I'd like to start.

The program, the concept, the brand --> The Duke MBA
The place where you go to school --> Duke
If it's possibly confusing if you mean Big Duke or the business school --> Fuqua

It's a branding thing if you think about it. Duke is a well-known university. JB Fuqua - a cool guy, but not really known.

So how long do you typically give the admissions folks to respond to an email question?
I messaged on Monday asking about whether high school calc (AP level) counts for the calc requirement at Duke...I'm thinking of giving them until end of day tomorrow before calling again on Thursday. Does that sound about right? Should i wait longer?

thanks:)

I asked a good friend of mine who goes there. She confirmed "Duke MBA" is the way to go. Like someone else said, it's the branding. I slipped in a few references to going to Fuqua, but always the Duke MBA.

Submitted!

I know the Calculus requirement is C.

Question. what if you took calc I, calc II, and calc III. i had less than a C in Calc I. But more than a C in Calc II and III.

thoughts on that? im gonna obviously use one of my Calc II and III scores, but i hope the C requirement doesnt knock me off cause of Calc I.

I should add I also passed on first trying the fundamentals of engineering exam, which is an 8 hour exam to get your EIT certificate that has quite a bit of calculus

also got an A in finance.

Re: Calling all Duke (Fuqua) Fall 2009 applicants! [#permalink]
Guys,

I am gonna apply for R1, but i am having trouble for a particular information:

1. I am looking at taking my educational iniiative international post MBA.
- Now i want to know if Duke has club in this direction?
- I know Melinda Gates is a past Duke student , but is there any alumnus here who works for a NGO or a Social cause or an alumnus who has since started a organisation or works for one along the lines i am thinking about?
- Does consulting come under such a idea? Meaning if i am a consultant for McKinsey, BAH or Goldman Sachs does any consulting work involve policy making or aid in consulting policy making?

Basically i am having trouble linking Duke with my idea, any feedback towards this is appreciated.

Thanks,
Deepak

I can't see it being a problem. If you took a MORE advanced course than they are asking about and you got better than a C, you should be good.

If I were you, I'd drop the adcom a quick email to confirm. It will put your mind at ease.

In the recommendation section.... there is a part where we have to choose the “relationship to you” field
My recommender was a former team lead ( but not a manager or former colleague) , What Do you suggest I put in designation of my recommender
