Thanks Maverick!

I just sent her a brief thank you and just mentioned feedback in passing but put no pressure on her to respond or anything like that. We'll see if I get any response. I doubt that I will because everyone seemed to be really really busy,

Michael Corbett in the admissions office said that he had over 800 emails in his in box and that it stays at about that level no matter how quickly he answers them all. He seemed pretty stressed out. I can only imagine how backed up they are.

I agree with maverick2011, I think you did a pretty good job cereal255. Don't worry, you've done what you could with Cornell. I'm sure your love for Cornell was apparent in the way you answered their questions.

Congratulations on getting this out of the way so early, and we'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for you.

+1 for the debrief, too.

And to all the other applicants, e-mailing the Admissions Office is an exercise in futility if you're looking for an immediate answer. Simply call them with whatever questions you have.

Thanks Solaris! I'm trying not to get too freaked out.

I'll definitely second the comment about the futility of email. I was in the admissions office for about half an hour and he was typing FURIOUSLY the whole time and commenting on how many emails he was getting. But, at the same time, he was also answering the phone and his answers were all very helpful from what I overheard.

Definitely call, you'll get a much better, more prompt answer.

Question: When you log in to the website and click on your status, you download your PDF file. On the PDF file, it only lists only one of my recommenders' letter being received rather than two. Ironically, on the website itself, it states that Cornell received both of my recommenders' letters.

Is anyone having similar situation or does everyone's PDF has both of the recommender's names on it?

I have the same problem. It cuts off the second recommender sometimes even if both are in.

BTW this is what my application currently says:

Your application is complete and currently with the review committee. You wiill learn our final decision on your application at 8 a.m. Eastern time on the published notification date.

So it looks like there are no rolling admissions.

I am not a Cornell applicant. But all Indian applicants to Cornell may find this interesting

I believe they are "rolling" in the sense that you may get dinged before the notification date, at least that's what I recall happened last year. The admits find out a day before, but no earlier than that.

I was digging around the 2008 thread and it looks like something similar to that happened. Though there was a lot of drama last year because of the increased applications which led to delays in processing. Hopefully they will have worked out some of the bugs so it's a smoother process this time around.

No additional interview invites from anyone yet?

The new Cornell chat with Accepted.com is up. It has some interesting information in it.

https://www.accepted.com/chat/Transcript ... rnell.aspx

I will post some highlights below.

"Linda, we have four rounds, with Round One concluded last week. Percentages of offers are higher for those in Round One. Round Two is strong and Rounds 3 and 4 are much tougher, with Round Four being very difficult. Last year we had 500 apps in Round 1, 750 in Round 2, 1300 in Round 3 and 400 in Round Four--by the time we got to Round Four, most of the class was filled."

"Ruche, we do not count the number of words exactly, but we did deny a candidate last year who submitted essays far above our word limit. I recommend remaining under 400 words."

Randall Sawyer was quite descriptive when describing the admissions process. For Cornell applicants the chat is a must read.

So Round 1 applications are up 20%, then.

edit - and during that chat Laurie said 20% of total applicants interviewed were eventually accepted? :?

Thanks for posting that link Dharmabum. A lot of the stuff in there about the interviews was very reassuring to me. +1 for that.

Sounds like those of us who submitted for round one have a better chance than those in the later rounds and that files are updated on a rolling basis which probably explains why some of us who submitted earlier are getting interviews earlier. Good news for most of us on this thread...

Solaris,

That 20 percent number can't possibly be correct.

Just some quick and dirty math:

If they received appox 3000 apps, appox 50% interviewed = 1500 interviewed then it has to be around 33% with offers from interviews since they only have a yield of 55 percent and with a class size around 250-275 there would need to be somewhere around 500 offers made.

And she also said that odds are much better in R1 so I'd imagine the rate would be slightly higher in our pool. (At least that's what I'll keep telling myself)

Edit:: The 20 percent interviewed is the number that MATRICULATED. I just calculated it based on the totals from last year.

2667 *.45 appox equals 1200
1200 * .20 appox equals 240

Perhaps she was just referring to the international pool based on the question she was asked.

An update for those of you who have not heard back fom the Johnson School. I heard back from my admission officer saying that they hope to have all round 1 applications ready for review by the end of this week.

Actually only 10%, which supposedly would be 50 more applications.

Christine, with the economy the way it is, is Johnson expecting a higher number of applicants?

ChristineSnevaCORNELL (Oct 13, 2008 12:04:24 PM)
M2k, yes we are - we are up 10% in the first round.

Well somebody's misinformed then, because when I called last week I was told Johnson received 600 R1 applications.

I'm beginning to take any statistics Cornell throws at me with a grain of salt.

I hear you. I think a couple people pointed out a stat that they had on their website that explicity (and erroneously) said that their acceptance rate was 19%.
