Re: Calling all Duke (Fuqua) Fall 2009 applicants! [#permalink]
Thanks for all those suggestions! I second the recommendations of Dain's Place and Parker & Otis. Toast is another favorite for lunch -- it's downtown at Five Points.

For car care, I can also recommend Neal's Garage, which is in walking distance of Station 9. I've found them honest and reasonably priced, and they give a 10% discount for Duke students. (A lot of places seem to do this.)

Fuqua's 2008-2009 preliminary employment report is out. Judge for yourself.

Also, for what it's worth, I prefer the Federal (bar) and Elmo's (diner) in Durham.

That makes me laugh! The mean salary for Class of 2009 actually goes up the fewer years of work experience you have!

Oh, I LOVE the fed - the food is fabulous, but it's smoky as hell and there's no pirate bartender....

And more to the point, what is up with those little-experience Fuquans? 3% means about 12 people. We only had one student in the class of 2009 with no work experience (a 5th-year lacrosse player with an exceptional story). We did have a number of PhDs who probably hadn't worked much, given that your average PhD takes 4-6 years (or more). And the JD/MBAs often have little or experience, since the JD is often a straight-out-of-undergrad thing to do. I suppose the attorneys might make pretty good money, but I wonder about the others? Any guesses?

You bumped the wrong thread. Please find the Fall 2010 thread and ask there. Thanks!

Can any current student shed some light on this? they hire Kroll to do background checks. student must fill out a "data-sheet" (whatever that means) then kroll will do the rest.

What is asked in this "data sheet" and how do they go about verifying employment?
Do they just verify current employment, last 2 jobs, all jobs?
How do they do so, do we give them the contact info of your supervisor and they call/email them, or do they randomly call the public number listed for the company and ask to be connected to HR?
What if your file is not in the HR records, are you basically screwed?
What else do they ask the employer: job title, salary, etc?
