Thanks for starting this Raabend !

wow what happened? is this the US News effect?

Ok I will start this. I will apply to Cornell...and hope that I'm not the only one in gclub.
Aiming for round 1, but reality might not agree with me.

Im expecting Cornell to suffer from the Raabend effect and have a booming applicant pool this season. Best of luck 8-)

Well, I am not a 2010 applicant, but am very interested in applying in the next couple years!

So I will probably be reaching out to a lot of the admits from Gmatclub!

Good luck to everyone this year!

A 2009 waitlisted applicant here...
Just thought I'd share a piece of info I got during a conversation with adcom - median GMAT score for class of 2011 is 710.

I'll keep you guys company. Prior to starting my research on MBA programs Johnson was near the top of my list (#2). However, after reading last year's thread and the recent drop in ratings, I'm a lot less enthusiastic. I'm still going to apply, they haven't dropped off the short list yet...

Hey Skye10, welcome. I am curious what from last year's thread was a turn off? Cornell actually had one of the most active and dynamic threads of all the top schools for Fall 09 applicants....was it the member-to-member dialogue or was it specific reporting from certain members?

i am interested in cornell but should i even bother with the following gpas? Havent taken GMAT yet but i would be very happy if i can break the 700 mark(even though 710 is the median...):
undergrad: 2.94 EE & Computer Eng. RPI
grad: 3.3 Comp. Sci NCSU
work experience: ~4 years in software dev.

Hi Raabend, I definitely enjoyed and appreciated all of the enthusiastic discussion that took place between all of the thread participants (it took me several days to get thru all 71 pages of it). However, some of the dialogue raised some red flags in the back of my mind. While I have no idea who is correct - the gmat club opiners or the adcom - the admittance statistics confusion discussed in the mid-20s pages and the typically "unpleasant" interview experiences with alumni that's talked about on page 30 are some examples. Also, while I don't want to single any one person out, there was one comment made in the middle of page 30 that was particularly alarming:
A couple other things that really surprised me. She [a member of career services] talked down Cornell a lot! She said that Harvard, Wharton, Columbia and Chicago are much better at placing on the buyside (obviously! that's why everyone at cornell was dinged by cbs!) and she said the asset management immersion, student run fund and virtual trading floor were not that helpful in recruiting! Later she more or less said, cornell makes worker bees not CEOs...
I'm still very much interested in Johnson, but the need to make sure that Cornell will provide what I'm looking for in a business school has become that much more critical...

Hey Skye10 and the rest of Johnson 2010 gang,

I've been totally MIA but hope to rectify tht hereon...

a few quick facts about my experience with the Johnson School..

for starters I hope i have not alarmed you with the description of my interview. Yes, it was unconventional but I thoroughly enjoyed it, was at ease throughout and was not intimidated by my interviewer (i'd like to credit my interviewer and his approach partially for it). And at the end of the day I am in..so the interview worked!

i've seen a lot of posts esp. on other forums (BW) about the poor response frm adcom members. I personally have had a very good experience. I only used to have trouble getting my adcom rep. on the phone wen needed but always got prompt replies to my emails.

regd. rankings. this one i don't have much thoughts on. I know the Johnson School has gone down in rankings but when I was applying I never really paid much attention to it. The program, the culture, the opportunities and the people were more imp. to me.

Hmmm.... that was me  Raabend please don't rip me a new one 8-)

For what it's worth a lot of that related to applicant anxiety (I thought that interview experience meant a ding for sure) and I hated my interviewer a whole lot less after my admit came through 8-). There are a whole lot of positives about Cornell and I give the school positive marks overall. PM me if you want more info.

Hi everyone,

I would be applying to cornell this year. 'cornell makes worker bees more than CEO's'. This seems to coming up a lot in other forums too. But i would state that if any MBA applicant goes to a school thinking that a school would make him a CEO, has to drastically rethink his goals. I would suggest such an applicant to start his own company rather than join MBA, and become CEO instantly.

Any thoughts on how Cornell's location in Ithaca, has an effect on its recruitment services? Especially in consulting and tech industry?

Greetings sentiment and IHateTheGMAT! I appreciate your encouraging responses that provide a more complete picture. The more research that I do, the more I realize that the perfect "fit" is a fallacy as no one school provides any and everything that each applicant is looking for and believes is important. I'm def gonna give everything I have into my Johnson application, and I'm glad to hear that your experiences worked out for you guys!
