What are Tags?Tags and tagging are a way to classify and organize posts on GMAT Club - these are post categories. There are several ways to structure posts - one is the current structure where questions are organized by question type such as DS, PS, CR, RC, and SC. Another way would be by topic such as - geometry, assumptions, book reviews, etc, yet another would be by question difficulty, and so on. With forum structure, we are limited to the forums and one post can only live in one forum, but with tags - we have a lot more freedom. For example a post can be tagged as a "Hard" "Assumption Question" and "GMATPrep" and belong to 3 distinct sets of discussions.
How will Tags help me with my GMAT and MBA Application?- Identify question and topic types quickly while browsing tagged forums (Math & Verbal questions and BSchool Application forums are the first to be tagged), you will see a set of tags associated with many of the posts. For example take a look at Critical Reasoning Forum. (Not all posts may be tagged - we are still working on it and is something we can use your help with )
- Find specific topics and specific practice question types. For example visit this post - you will see a number of tags - click any of them and you will get a list of all other posts in this forum (only in this forum) that use this tag.
- Find Similar Topics. If you have a question or topic you are interested in, click "Find Similar Topics" to display related discussions. For example, you find a post that uses tags such as "Hard", "Assumption Questions" and "GMATPrep". If you click "find similar topics", the forum will list all posts with these 3 tags first, then it will list posts with at least 2 tags, and finally posts that contain only one of the tags, thus allowing to see ALL related posts, based on relevance.
Who Tags Topics?- Any GMAT Club member can add/remove tags - if there is only one tag - add one first and then remove the old one
- Topic author is presented with a list of tags that may apply to a post in that particular forum. The author is currently not required to select a tag to start a new thread but is strongly encouraged.
Can I see All Tags?Yes, you can see all Tags used in every forum here:
viewforumtags.phpHow can I get involved?- We have quite a bit of effort ahead to tag and categorize many of the posts. In the first 3 forums and then in others - any assistance you can offer in tagging discussions is appreciated
- Suggest new or improve existing tags by contacting one of the administrators
Can I add my own tags?At this time tags are assigned by Administrators and the forum does not support custom user tags. If you have a good tag in mind for one of the forums, please PM myself or
Dzyubam and we will add it.
Why only a few forums support tags?We are starting with Quant & Verbal Forums as well as Bschool Application - the forums that would gain the most value from adding tag functionality. We are working on rolling out this functionality to the rest of the GMAT Club forums, depending on adoption and feedback we receive after the initial deployment
Why are only the latest discussions Tagged? That's because we are still working on tagging the best and latest topics - you can help as you browse.
Login first. Then as you browse, you can add tags by moving your mouse over the "Add a Tag" link. Pick a tag from the drop down menu. You can also remove tags if you feel the post is mis-classified by clicking "X" next to each of the tags.
My posts keep getting mis-tagged - what do I do?We keep track of all tag transactions in a log. Please contact one of the administrators if you feel that your work is getting sabotaged and we will address the issue with the offenders.
