I've been reading this site for a few days, and I've been very impressed with the discussion that goes on here. With this in mind, I was hoping to get your advice on approaching a ds question and checking your work.
My background is in engineering, and I'm very comfortable approaching a problem solving question. Unfortunately, I'm way out of my comfort zone with DS questions.
I have been reviewing Kaplan's GMAT prep book, and they have some useful tips for ds, but on questions I still make far too many preventable mistakes (the ones that you look at the answer and smack yourself on the head). I attribute this to two things:
1. I don't have a consistent approach to ds problems. 2. I don't have an easy way to quickly double check my work.
So what do you do when you see a ds problem? Do you dive right in? Do you solve each statement to completion (like an answer explanation would)? If not, then when do you stop?
Finally, when you get an answer, do you do anything to check your work?
I appreciate all your comments.
