Good one

For insurance companies who are reading this: I study risk management and stay home all day where it is nice and safe

For those not related to insurance: motorcycle racing

Cool topic bipolarbear. I too love Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Cooper just rocks and Penny is just HOTTTT!!!! I mean, really really HOTTT!!!! Leonard, Howard and Raj are well within their sphere of comedy as well. I particularly loved that statement on Sheldon - "He is just one laboratory experiment away from being a super villain!!!" Totally Hillarious!!!!

mohater, good luck on being a father!!! That's like a painful yet sweet promotion in life. You hate it but you can't stop loving it!!!!

shadowsjc, I tried roulette couple of times and figured out a trick, never implemented though. May be i'll post it someday for all of us to think over. My trick might work but it'll take a lot of time at the table.

And yeah, my hobbies. I love TV shows - FRIENDS is my all-time fav. How I met your mother is hillarious as well, Barney Stinson Rocks!!!, naah, he's L-E-G-E-N-D-A-R-Y!!!!. I usually stay hooked onto CBS mostly on monday nights 8PM onwards. I am a huge Hollywood fan. I have like a 700 GB of collection in my Terabyte External Hard Disk drive, all from Torrents, yeah am a thief, I know!! And saturday nights, only recently like a month ago, I got addicted to this habit of going to the pubs/bars for drinks and some shaking-a-leg on the dance-floor as well as hitting, rather unsuccessfully like bipolarbear claimed, on members of the opposite sex. God!!! I hope, I'dn't be unlucky at least in a b-school party!!!!

Hey Shadow,
What's the trick? I tried a couple of times before. But never have any good luck.

Re: What are peoples' hobbies? [#permalink]
just play outside bets (red or black, odd or even, 1st 18 or 2nd 18). your chances of winning these bets are roughly 50-50... other than this, there is no real strategy. for awhile, i employed the "gamblers fallacy" (i.e. if 4 or more "red" numbers came up, i would bet on a black number). after doing some more reading on this, i found that it's not really a good or bad way to bet - it's just random

my latest trick is to just pick one number (usually my lucky #) and bet $5 on this one number each time until i win. this would usually involve me playing up to 35 times in a row maximum. if i win, then i pick a new number and restart the cycle. if i lose all 35 times, well then i was just not very lucky. but at least this way as long as you hit once in 35 times, you come away a winner.

Re: What are peoples' hobbies? [#permalink]
seems interesting discussion that shadow has come up with his own trick at winning at the roulette.

I was mentioning one of my tricks. Not even a trick, it's just an idea I had devised after repeated failures and never got a chance eversince to try my luck. But if anyone's interested, please be my guest. This trick will take a lot of time but surely gonna earn you some rewards.

Let's say the least bet at the table is $15. This trick requires you to play only on a 1:2 ratio, i.e; odd or even, red or black stuff.
For every round double the amount of what you bet on the previous round, preferably keep it the minimum at the table as long as you keep losing, until you win.
Round 1 - You bet $15 and win or lose.
Win: You get $30 and you make a profit of $15.
Lose: You lose $15.
Round 2 - This depends on the outcome of round 1.
outcome of round 1 - winning : You bet $15, the least bet at the table and follow exactly like round 1.
losing: You lost $15 so you'll bet double of what you lost in the previous round, $30. effectively, you are betting $45 including two rounds.
Win: If you win on $15 bet, you get $30 and your profit is $15. If you win on a $30 bet, you get $60 and though your effective betting was $45, your profit is still $15.
Lose: You effectively lose $45.
Round 3 - This depends on outcomes of both round 1 and round 2
outcome of round 2 - winning: you bet $15 again, the least bet at the table and follow exactly like round 1.
losing: you lost $45 so you'll bet double of what you lost in the previous round, $60. effectively, you are betting $105 ( 60 + 30 + 15 ) including three rounds.
win: if you win on $15 bet, you get $30 and your profit is still $15. If you win on $60, you get $120 and though your effective bet was $105, you still make a profit of $15.
lose: You effectively lose $105.

Go on doing this until you get a profit of $15 and immediately drop back to round 1. For every round, when you win, drop back to $15, the minimum at the table and if you lose, double your bet to the previous round and keep betting until you win. The moment you win, drop back immediately to round 1 again.

Somebody try this trick and lemme know how it works.

I shoot people.

Ummm... with a camera. These days I'm trying to learn Photoshop Elements 7.0. Been trying to move away from an overdose of nature photography, and into architecture photography.

Was wondering: what are the chances of keeping up with a hobby while in b-school?

Until my GMAT studies consumed me, I used to read a lot of economics books written during 16th -19th centuries, along with political treatises. Sounds boring, but I love it. This hobby actually helps for CR and RC.

I also studied Japanese quite seriously for a bit. I went to a language school in Sapporo, Japan and became fairly proficient at the language. I remember walking up to some strangers in a Tokyo bar and striking up a real conversation in Japanese. Fantastic memory. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to practice lately, so my skills are degrading.

I also like watching House Hunters International. It's fun to see all sorts of cities around the globe.

my gf has been going crazy trying to get me to watch "how i met your mother". she swears that neil patrick harris' character is a carbon copy of both of us, based on the things he says and does (and actually, i kinda agree based on a few clips i've seen). however, the only 2 full length episodes i watched did not draw me in. maybe it was just bad luck, but i didnt find the show all that funny.

my favorite recent show is probably House.. i finally caught up watching all 6 seasons recently, so i'm looking for a new show to watch. i'm leaning towards sopranos at the moment - supposed to have been a great show.

Re: What are peoples' hobbies? [#permalink]
After graduating and during my first employment, I used to go hiking/camping most of the weekends. Living in a place that boasts mountains with glacier tops, forests, streams of water and lakes, it was almost impossible not to get hooked in that activity. I usually hiked 1 day trips, but many times 2 day trips, and occasionally 3 day trips. It didn't matter the season, I would enjoy hiking even in the winter time (if I was not snowboarding).

I was relocated and had to find another hobbies. The location was not good for outdoor sports, so I surfed the internet every day reading sport news (mainly tennis and football) and other political/economic news.

After getting married I didn't spend so much time over the internet...

The last two years we were again relocated. There are mountains again, but having a small baby, most of the free time is divided between being pooped/peed as mohater described, and studying for gmat/researching bschool programs.

We do go out to the mountains but only by car, almost no hiking anymore, and for few hours, depending on what the needs of the baby are.

In college time I spent a great deal of time doing any kind of sport such as volleyball, football, jogging, tennis, ping pong, mountain bike, water skiing, besides camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities with my friends.

I rarely watch movies or TV. I never owned a TV, so I watch it only in my relative's or friends'. Not interested in poker or card games either. I'm more attracted to computer games, especially sports/strategy.

Re: What are peoples' hobbies? [#permalink]
I forgot to mention that during high school and college I also spent a lot of time in musical activities. I was learning to play piano and trumpet. But most of the musical experience is singing in choirs. We traveled extensively with our high school and college choirs. We even participated in competitions. It was a good time because the group was good and we spent a long time together during the trips.

When I started working I didn't have the opportunity of joining a choir until last year. However, this year the choir dissolved. I'm not so worried since I started to study for gmat so I fill out most of the empty time with that.

My son is now 1 year and 4 months so I spend most of the time after work playing with him. I study early in the morning or late at night (if still awaken enough for that).

Anyone there loving singing, or hiking?
