Math major
Second semester senior
3.0 GPA (Got a 4.0 last semester)
780 GMAT (V46, Q51)
Ideally, I want to work in NYC.
I plan to apply next year or even this year if possible.
I think I should apply to approximately ten programs. Where should I apply?

No one applies to 10 programs. This isn't like undergraduate admissions application.
Your low GPA is mitigated by high GMAT but it will most likely put you at disadvantage at top 5 -10 MS programs, compared to applicants with solid 3.4+ GPA combined with 680+GMAT.

MS Accounting programs are in demand right now due to many graduates going straight from undergrad to grad school in bad economy. If the rest of your application is solid, then I think you have a (better than) realistic chance at Tier 1.5 to Tier 2 MS programs. If you are interested in NYC jobs, apply to schools in the Northeast with recruiting exposure from the "national office".

Thanks! In that case, Rutgers seems like a good fit for me or SUNY Albany/Binghamton.
Both have relatively low tuition.
UNC may also be a good fit but I'm attending its rival school right now. :wink:
I'd only apply if I can be assured that I won't be stuck in North Carolina after the program.
Where I am is lovely but the culture is very different in North Carolina than New York and I'm a tired-and-true New Yorker. 8-)
Boston College is another possibility and if I can't get anything in NYC, Boston would be my second choice.
I could also try for UT-Austin and USC but..I think my chances are slim unless they really look positively on the upward trend- their average GPAs are something like 3.7...

Rochester in NY sent me a lot of junk mail after i took the gmat and I was also a 720+.

Bentley is cheaper than BC, BC's deadline for nonaccounting majors was december.

I mean i think you have a shot at USC, their 90% GMAt is like a 710-730, and they might want a splitter to balance a 3.9 560.

I can honestly say you don't need to go to a top 10 MS program to get a job in a Big 4 Public Accounting Firm. It may make a difference only let's say you want to work in a totally different part of the country otherwise going to a strong program in the region would probably suffice. With that said I don't think you should completely rule out applying to USC as someone who graduated from the program within the last 3-4 yrs I can say they pay ALOT of attention to that GMAT score (in the year I applied I think the absolute minimum GMAT you could get in with was a 580 and they also said they preferred your GMAT to be at least a 600).
