If the price increased by from 2001 to 2002 by X% and by Y% from 2002 to 2003, what is the percentage increase from 2001 to 2003?

1. XY=30
2. 100X+100Y+XY=800

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Would appreciate any detailed explanation of the problem

I feel correct answer is 'B'.

If a product price increases first by X%,then by Y%, total increase is given by formula

X%+Y%+XY/100%.

Using this formula & stmt2 we get total increase as 8%

I think Statement 2 is sufficient and Answer is B
