Re: It is known that when neurons activate, we say that they [#permalink]
I was confused between (A) and (D) but picked (D).

What is the OA?

also, would like to know the reasoning for (A) to be wrong.

Not A because take out the material in between the commas and you get an awkward sentence.

It is known that when neurons activate and they pass on a signal to other neurons.

I'll also go with D.

A looks awkward.

[quote="ykaiim"]It is known that when neurons activate, we say that they "fire", and they pass on a signal to other neurons.
A) we say that they "fire", and no need for the second they
B) which we say they "fire", and no need for the second they
C) called "firing", and no need for and - changing the meaning
D) referred to as "firing", correct
E) which we call firing, and no need for and - changing the meaning

if i ignore the text within commas ( ,
It is known that when neurons activate they pass on a signal to other neurons. sentence is complete and henece and is not required . So I narrow down to C and D.....Dont know why but called firing does not seem to fit in .... and hence I pick D ( I reckon infinitive is required here. as it is preceded by a comma . had this been preceded by a colon : then I would have picked C ) ....

cheers
