Re: Result correlation between GMAT and GMAT Club's Tests [#permalink]
One option would be to compare your scores with the ones submitted by those who already took the real GMAT. You can find those scores in this thread (see the previous pages).
Another option would be to use the GMAT Club Score Estimator (if you took GMAT Prep, Kaplan or MGMAT preparation tests). Here's a link:
https://gmatclub.com/gmat-score-estimate/

Hope this helps.
By the way, welcome to the Club! :)

Be very careful of Kaplan. I have seen many times that Kaplan CAT's are harder than the real thing and that one might expect 50-100 points more on the real test. This was not true in my case. I scored as follows on my last 4 Kaplan CAT's
660
650
690
680

Studied hard, today I took the real thing and scored 560, needless to say I'm incredibly disappointed.

I don't understand this estimator,
I scored 660, 650, 690, and 680 on recent Kaplan CATs

today I got a 560 on the real thing

Do you know if the Club tests are easier at the beginning and than get harder to the end?

Done the first 11 in the last week. My almost emotional assessment on their difficulty levels is as follows:

1 - very easy
2 - easy
3/4 - average
5 - difficult
6/7/8 - insane
9/10 - difficult
11 - average

Regardless of their level of difficulty, I made an exorbitant number of careless mistakes on the first three exams. And on exams 6, 7 and 8 I had to retort to a technique that is better avoided: guessing left and right.

These challenges are fantastic.

It seems that numerous high scorers have taken the Challenges in the last 18 months, pronouncedly lowering the percentiles.

This is how my percentiles compare to percentiles from exams with similar scores taken in 2008:

M04 33/37 = 98.7% in Aug/08 vs M04 33/37 = 91% in Sep/09
M09 25/37 = 59.3% in May/08 vs M09 26/37 = 51% in Sep/09
M11 30/37 = 83.3% in Aug/08 vs M11 31/37 = 80% in Sep/09

I think if you consistently score in the 90's you are assuring yourself a 49-50 as long as you're practicing under test day environments. If you're scoring like I did (a few 90's but otherwise all over the board), you need to either improve your focus on practice tests or trust that the pressure will eliminate a lot of the careless errors on test day. I also find the GMATClub challenges to be harder (trickier).

you are right about the challenges being trickier. Further, scoring in the 90 percentile may be a sufficient condition to achieve 49+ in Q in actual GMAT; I am not sure if it is a necessary condition, though.
I took some gmat club math tests; and was a little bit depressed by the percentile. These tests are really useful as they will make one sweat and reviewing even the correct answers provides sometimes interesting insights into a quicker way of attacking the problem. Now, the moderators might really consider asking the test taker if s\he wants to see the percentile as some might find it depressing to look at the percentile. These percentile reflect only a small population (of gmat club members who take the test) and not the gmat test takers at large.
It is a good project to try to correlate the gmat club math scores with the gmat Q scaled score.

Re: Result correlation between GMAT and GMAT Club's Tests [#permalink]
I totally agree with you. The tests are good ressources but the percentile does not have a real signification.

First of all, we can take the tests several times and then indirectly manipulate the percentile.

Second, if you compare the percentile of a guy who take the test some months ago and the percentile of the same guy who take the test today (with the same number of correct answers), we can consider a difference of 10 or 20%.

In fact it is just a result so it does not matter but the thing is, as you said, the percentile can have an impact on our moral.

So, GMAT Club Tests are obviously very useful but I am not certain that the percentile play an important role in that. Moreover, it will be hard to correlate the result with GMAT prep Q score, just because GMAT Club tests are not CAT. Consequently, IMO, the best thing to do is just to erase the percentile.

the challenge interface was being re-done during most of this time so the built in timer wasn't working. thus you could keep going after 75 minutes. i started timing myself. scores marked with a * indicate when i went past the 75 minute mark. in some cases i spent up to 100 minutes. my goal early was on to learn how to do every question, even if it meant struggling during the test. then, from test 16 onwards or so, i was very good at doing the majority of question types. i then started to focus on test-taking strategy and would skip questions in the interest of time. by the last 3-4 challenges i was finishing a few minutes early. also, i would absolutely recommend that you go back and review each question whether you got it right or wrong. make sure you are tackling the problem the fastest way. i spent about 2 hours total on each challenge...75 taking the test and 40 minutes or so reviewing each question and re-doing questions i knew i could tackle faster.

i would really like to thank gmatclub for these challenges. w/o a doubt these challenges raised my score from 85-90% to 99%. the only other math prep i did was the last 1/3-1/4 questions in OG11 and OG quant workbook. i haven't tried mgmat, kaplan 800, etc.. but i would absolutely recommend these challenges if you're shooting for 49+ quant. well, well worth the $79.

Thanks, that was very helpful...

I'm planning on taking my exam this june (after my CFA exam) and I'll definitely do all the GMATClub math and verbal tests...

I too would like to know this. I don't have much time left and I want to dedicate enough time to only 5 to 7 gmatclub exams.

From one of the prior posts (page 4?), I suspect exams 6, 7, 8, and 9 are pretty tough. In addition to those (based on the "Hardest Questions" section of the club test home page), 13, 14, 17-24 are also tough.

I think I'll start with 6, 7, and 8, and do a few of the higher-numbered exams.
