good luck guys. nink is one of the moderators on the forum and he is a current rising 2nd year student. consider him a resource for questions about the program, campus, etc.

i'll be starting classes in the fall and i'll try and answer any app questions since i just went through the process a few months ago.

For nink or shadowsjc,

What does Yale SOM have for people who want to get into finance like PE/IB in real estate post MBA? I've looked at the website, but other than electives in finance and PE, I couldn't find any.

I don't remember dedicated IB recruiting for Real Estate during the Superweek (which is dedicated week just for finance and consulting OCR) but I know classmates doing some fancy R/E stuff via off campus recruiting. Basically at YSOM, if you are interested in specific jobs, let great people at CDO know. They assist you with personal attention. I wouldn't have gotten my internship if it wasn't for CDO.

I also have friends currently at Wharton and CBS with cool R/E summer internships in Washington DC and NYC. Neither had R/E background before bschool. Both of them interviewed off campus as well. Before bschool, one was a derivatives trader at a large IB and the other one was a lawyer.

For PE, it is going to be more difficult without having related work experience before bschool. They don't generally have training programs, and they want people who can do the job without babysitting.

I see more FT job opportunities for R/E than internships. So my advice is to go for IB/MC related internships for the summer and then use that experience as leverage to land you interviews for FT opportunities in R/E. Also, you can ask current students who did R/E related internships over the summer.

I won't be able to check this board regularly until after Aug 13, when my internship ends. Then I will be off to Cape Cod for a week before school starts again. I hope shadowjc or adude can answer YSOM related questions while I am gone.

Can someone explain couple of distinct characteristics of SOM? I'm looking through some websites and cannot find any other than Yale brand. Collaberative, friendly, good faculties, etc are given in top MBAs. Anything other than these?

I gotta say, Yale is doing a horrible job marketing SOM.
