Hi amneetpadda,

Try Vocaboly software for words. About CR, I have not solved verbal review yet but I have improved in CR by going through OG 10. I first read CR bible and then solved OG10 and then OG12.

Thanks,

Hi Amneet,

yes, vocaboly software, I mean to say. They have trail version available for free. If you like then you can buy the complete software from them. It's pretty costly to buy the complete software but some one in GMAT club was willing to share the cost, I don't remember where I read about that in one of the GMAT club's post.

If you ask me, initially I thought the same about RC. I don't have rich vocabulary. However I think that, in stead of learning new vocab words at this stage would not benefit much. Almost always my answers about tone of the author are wrong. But I think that there will be max 2 questions like that. I have decided to focus on other parts of the preparation where I can work on and be 100% accurate, like SC.
I mean that's my opinion.

I didn't improve CR in only 10 days or so. Frankly telling, even after doing CR bible, I was not at all improved. Then I did OG10 and lately in OG10 I started seeing improvements. We are sinking in the same boat about professional background.
Verbal is the biggest night mare for me as well. I remember myself spending maximum time for SC preparation. I have gone through doing grammar book as well.
However my SC accuracy is 60% .

About RC, as everybody says, doing 3 passages a day can improve accuracy. We can try that.
Let's study together and fight the evil verbal !!

Thanks,
Chaitra

Than let it be 3 passage daily on RC to improve the performance I would say why not
3 RC passage , 20 SC and 20 CR question daily and see how we perform

Hi amneet,

That sounds a very good plan.
Do you have any specific book in mind or can we start from OG 12?

Ready to study !!

Have you tried 1000 SC, CR & RC? I think they have some great questions. If you have time to spare, try them.

For everyone who is foreign (I'm not) to English - my g/f is Polish and recently took the IELTS exam - my best advice is READ READ READ as much as you can from many different sources to get more comfortable with English!! there are lots of posts on this anyway.

I agree with n2739178.
Reading is the best way to improve ENGLISH. Its better to start now than to repent later. Start something interesting and then go for novels having convoluted sentence structures.

Re: For all those who fear from Verbal- lets give it a fight [#permalink]
Hi,
I am taking GMAT this Friday and feeling really unprepared, because of Verbal :(. My weakness is CR, most of the incorrect answers of Verbal section in GMATPrep are CR. I have been working seriously on it, but for some reasons I cannot improve my CR.

I used PowerScore CR and took notes of all the question types as well as the approach to crack them. After finishing this book, I began practising on OG 12 and Verbal Review and got shocked due to the countless wrong answers :((. I tried to figure out the reason: the major shortcoming was that I did not determine clearly the premises and the conclusion, hence, I got deceived by tricky answer choices. Then I attempted CR again, paying more attention to the premises and the conclusion and reviewing the PowerScore CR notes, but it appears to me that this struggle doesn't help!!! I still get many wrong answers in the GMATPrep.

In sum, the reasons can be as follows:
- My critical reasonning is truly weak (I feel so ashamed but I must admit it)
- Wrong materials, wrong approach

Although I haven't taken the exam, I am having the bad feeling that I will have to retake. If this scenario happens, I will have to build a solid plan to improve my Verbal, especially the CR. In order to do this, I must find out the reasons why I am beaten by it.

Pls kindly give me some pieces of advice!

So desperate with CR, hic

Do not panic. Now its the right time to revise everything.

Whatever has gone forget it and be confident about your preparation as you can not learn much in few days.
But being confident about your preparation will help you boosting your score.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I think identifying premise and conclusion is crucial to CR. Powerscore has an excellent strategy especially with prephrasing and so on. If you need more help with CR check out the threads on the CR forum. Keep an error log. And you can check out the CR guide I put together. It's in my signature.

Powerscore CR also breaks it down by question type. It will show you common correct answers and incorrect traps that try to trick you!
