Re: HEC Sep 2011 Intake [#permalink]
Hi,
Recently, I have looked at several MBA rankings with a startling fact that HEC Paris is ranked as a "secondary" level school rather than a top name.

For example, Business Week lists HEC Paris as one of the "second-tier" schools. SECOND tier! As an admitted student, it is shocking to learn that HEC is considered less than a top-tier program.

What is your take on this? Will appreciate your input.

Thanks.

I wouldn't pay that much attention since they consider Cambridge as Second Tier as well. I would be happy to attend Camridge even though someone calls it Second Tier.

Hi... Would you be able to throw some light on the placements stats at HEC?

How is a person with 3 years or work ex at matriculation and advanced level of French from Alliance Francaise fare?

Thanks in advance!

Economist Ranking 2010 [#permalink]
Hi almostfamous,

Maybe you like the current Economist Ranking for HEC better:

https://www.economist.com/node/17043164

1. Booth
2. Tuck
3. Berkeley
4. Havard
5. IESE
6. IMD
7. Stanford
8. Wharton
9. HEC
10. Schulich (!!!)

As you can see, rankings are somewhat biased. I like the comment made by a reader: "...I am so glad my alma mater is rated so highly by the Economist. I usually don't find it ranked higher than Harvard elsewhere..."

Cheers

Hi Catgmat,
Thanks a lot for the information. I appreciate for you to keep me updated with the ranking. HEC has certainly placed well this year for Economists.

What freaked me out in the FT ranking was that HEC was clearly categorized as one of the second-tier schools. (FT categorizes schools into tiers). Of course the actual place of a school will shift quite a bit from year to year, and from ranking to ranking. However, I had NEVER imagined to see HEC Paris as a second-tier school. Even school like Oxford Said, (no offense here to anyone!) who generally ranks on par with HEC in many rankings, was in the first-tier.

So this second-tier status caught my eye.

But malgre tout, it doesn't mean that I don't like HEC :)

Hi everyone, I also just submitted my application for the HEC January 2011 intake last week. It seems like even if I'm admitted it'll still be a challenge to pull off the financing and everything, but I'm up for the challenge. I hope to hear about interviews in the next week or two -- let me know how it goes for you!
