I have been browsing both debriefs and the math forum. (As you can see earlier, I did BETTER on my quantitative on GMATPREP2 with a 40V/42Q.)

Let me explain what my problem was. I tried harder than I have ever tried before and triple-checked all of my work on the first 15 quantitative questions, but so much revision got me off-pace. This was also the first time I had had a 5-Hour Energy while testing, so I may have hyperfocused, i.e., done better on the first 15 than I normally would've but been so focused that I didn't pay attention to the time.

I can say with confidence that my primary problem with quantitative at this point is a LACK of confidence in my answers - especially on data sufficiency questions. I have to learn to just accept an answer and move on instead of wasting 3-4 minutes , since I don't trust myself, on every single DS question.

Can anybody attest to the efficacy of Guess-Solve-Guess-Solve-Guess-Solve when you are in a time crunch?

Check out the strategy in the books that you got. . The picking numbers and backsolving are some techniques you can use to save time. . Just go through all the maths strategys. I think its just your lack of confidence. Try not to give quants so much respect :P Its much simpler than you think.

Reading that a recent GMAT taker (briangtsmith - congrats again, by the way) got a 700 with a 42Q/42V split has seriously made me smile!

UPDATE:

Avoid GMATLive if you are trying to get a high score. It is not difficult enough.

I'm really zeroing in on my weaknesses and practicing frequently. 1 more month to go!

I've been parsing through the MGMAT 8-Pack. I'm afraid to take my next practice test since I don't want to show a lack of improvement...I'll make myself soon, though.

One thing that is really starting to scare me is that I am starting to get better at quant than CR!

So my areas of focus for now are:

650 to 700-Level Questions for CR, DS, and PS
700 to 750+ Level Questions for RC and SC (My best area is SC - I was a history undergraduate.)

As many have said before, your score is only as strong as your weakest section...so I've got to get 700-level DS, PS, and CR questions consistently correct.

Just took the first Manhattan CAT. (Not the practice one.)

I could tell that I was doing poorly on the math; however, for the verbal, I definitely thought that I would get higher than a V44. I had a ton of ridiculous CR that brought me down.

Anyway, here's my score report.

Q38 V44 Composite: 680

680 was my original goal, but it will no longer suffice! COME ON 700+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I have to say is...this is what my Verbal and Quantitative scores seem to enjoy doing:

On the MGMAT #2, I just got my highest quantitative score yet - a Q43; however, right after a resounding V44 last night, I got a V36.

LOL.

Wow.

I must say that I felt the CR on MGMAT #2 was much harder and unusual than anything I have previously encountered.

MGMAT is still better than Knewton I believe. I got a 44 on Knewton Q with 5 mistakes that were all spaced out. I know there is no correlation between number correct, but seriously, Knewton is much harsher. I got a 700 on MGMAT with a Q47 V38. You're getting closer! :)

rockzon - When do you plan to take the test? 640 on an MCAT is NOT bad. It's much harder than the real gmat, from what I've read/experienced.

I'm taking it December 13th. The reason it is so frustrating is I received a 680 2 days ago on MGMAT 1, and a 650 yesterday on MGMAT 2. I was able to laugh yesterday's performance off; however, getting almost the exact distribution - except lower - is definitely disheartening.

I have GOT to figure out a way to achieve a positive performance on each section of the test DURING THE SAME TEST!!! If I could have done that yesterday then I would've gotten a 43Q/44V - more than enough for me.

I got the same exact problem as you. Whenever I got a 43 on quant, my verbal would go down to 38/39. It's crazy.

I would advise that you don't do a CAT everyday. Instead, go over your errors. I think taking CATS daily really hindered my progress.

I am taking the test again on Dec 20th after cancelling my scores yesterday (totally freaked out) and I feel like we have similar strenghts/weaknesses, although I think you seem to do a lot better than me on the MCATS.

hi guys i am anil, my last 4 gmat prep scores are 590,590, 570 & 630. i booked my slot on jan 13. i am doing poor in verbal i am getting around 25 - 30. can some one guide me getting 700+
