Re: Calling All NYU Stern Fall 2011 Waitlisters!! [#permalink]
Count me in too. I thought that if people are waitlisted without an interview, then they have a chance to request an interview to improve their chances of getting off? But the FAQ doesn't say anything about that. I'm wondering if I should call to see if I can interview. I'm in Brooklyn and going to NYU is not a problem at all. I'm also wondering if I should re-purpose and re-position some of the essays I did for other schools to tell them more about myself.

I'll join this club as well! I'm actually considering re-taking the GMAT (even though it will be pure hell), as it seems like per the waitlist letter Stern places a lot of importance on that, regardless of whether or not you increase your score.

As for other updates, they provide an email address in the letter for sending in additional information.

Anyone want to call them up and say, "Hey, I got into Columbia, but NYU is my first choice." It might work :)

It worked last year (but in reverse)

I'd have to change my profile colors before doing it though...

Just got the status update email from NYU. I checked the status website and saw the update @ 2:20, and the email came in @ 3:03. Guess the system is running slowly under the massive weight of all these WLs.

Congrats! As one hears ad nauseum on CNBC, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

def congrats on ross - id trade in every interview, w/l etc for one bird in the hand and not being so uncertain. id rather get flat dings at every school and one admit.

NYU's waitlist instructions are not as explicit as, say, Yale's about how frequently to send in material. I'm guessing that sending in an update once a month should be about right? Any thoughts on this?

Good question. I too would like to know this. Once a month seems too frequent? If a monthly updates aren't too frequent, then wouldn't we have to constantly nitpick and do new things for the sake of doing new things?

Is it OK to send in an initial email stating your continued interest in Stern and your intention to stay on the waitlist? From their instructions it seems like you can only contact them with NEW information:

"New information should only be submitted when it provides a different or updated perspective to the Admissions Committee. "

My plan is to send them an email adressing what you mention and including the name of an extra recommender that will be sending them a letter (thus covering the "new information" part). My choice of recommenders for Stern was made under time pressure, I really wanted to get it in for R1, so now I'll add a letter from the recommender who did my other R2 apps.
