Long time lurker.
I find waiting for 3 months for NYU to be entirely agonizing. Most the other schools, Columbia, Chicago, Wharton tell you within 1.5 months whether you're in, out, or waitlisted.
NYU makes the rejects wait 3 months before they find out, thereby inhibiting their ability to work on other applications because so much mental energy is devoted to obsessing about Stern.
I think it's safe to say that they picked out the bunch they wanted in December and 1st week of January, 2nd week of January is reserved for waitlists, and with the R2 deadline this Saturday, I think it's safe to say if you don't hear anything this week, consider yourself a gonner.
I find your post confusing BUT, I'll respond. Schools really have no incentive to hurry their process. They work at their own pace. If they accepted you after 3 months would you say no because they took so long?
One thing I was hoping for was to hear before Jan 4th and 5th when some of my rd 2 schools were due so that I could save money on apps AND not have to spend time during my christmas break working on essays. I didn't hear till the 5th after I had already submitted FOUR apps for roughly $1,000. BUT I am still happy with the acceptance in spite of this.
Also, word of advice. After hitting the submit button, move on to the next school and get the last one out of your mind until invited to interview.
