A for me, parallelism and it, refers to the design and should not refer to any of the people, which is why you eliminated choices with ....,he

A.
(b) he design is not he totally wrong
(c) even if i didn't know why is would be wrong here i would exclude it because of the parallelism issue. Normally, it would have to be Debbie's has and Dan's has but not Debbie's is and Dan's is - so C is out
(d) + (e) Design is compared to Debbie - improper comparison - WRONG!
(a) Jan's design is correctly compared with Debbie's and Dan's [design], it correctly replaces design - there are no other appropriate antecedents. So A is the winner !
