Thanks for your question about CAT scoring. As bb says, CATs are different from linear assessments (like the SAT or a history test in school). A computer-adaptive test doesn’t really care as much about how many questions you get right or wrong, but rather which questions you get right and wrong. Your scaled score is calculated based on a variety of criteria, including the difficulty of a question.
In the case of your particular Quant score -- which is still very solid! -- the difficulty of the items you missed was likely the determining factor. If you excelled on harder questions but missed two questions that the test determined were in your ability range, your score would be lower than it would have been otherwise.
