Re: TwoThrones' Epic GMAT Journey! [#permalink]
So its been about 4 months since my last post to this thread. How pathetic :(. Things came up and I was studying on and off. Well, finally I'm taking my exam this Saturday July 30, 2011. Here are the exams I've taken and my scores:

3/10/11 MGMAT #1: 660 47Q 33V
4/19/11 MGMAT #2: 630 43Q 33V
6/8/11 MGMAT #3: 650 46Q 33V

At this point I was very frustrated. I spent two months on verbal and I couldn't bring that score up. And my quant score was only going down! I decided to crack down and I took a few GMAT Club Tests. Here are the scores of those so far:

Test Correct Total % Correct Mean time Percentile
d01 45 45 100% 32.1799 sec 100%
m01 20 37 54% 14.0816 sec 12%
m02 30 37 81% 19.2406 sec 64%
m03 25 37 68% 106.9426 sec 45%
m04 26 37 70% 99.3043 sec 39%
m05 27 37 73% 108.5723 sec 65%
m06 29 37 78% 114.8951 sec 78%
m07 23 37 62% 117.7806 sec 30%
m08 26 37 70% 108.8724 sec 72%
m09 28 37 76% 108.4709 sec 64%
m10 27 37 73% 107.3684 sec 59%
m20 27 37 73% 112.6913 sec 29%
m21 26 37 70% 119.7228 sec 52%
m22 29 37 78% 102.0927 sec 55%
m23 31 37 84% 113.3668 sec 69%
m24 26 37 70% 70.5122 sec 42%
m25 29 37 78% 66.7825 sec 79%
s09 0 2 0% 115.3500 sec 0%
s13 5 14 36% 83.3362 sec 17%
s94 15 21 71% 51.2567 sec 28%
s99 8 20 40% 117.6769 sec 31%
v01 26 41 63% 99.1304 sec 41%
v99 26 32 81% 12.9749 sec 54%

Those tests are awesome with stamina. Taking a quant section of the exam seriously feels like a joke now. I can finish with 30 minutes to spare (although that way I usually make many dumb mistakes). I decided to take the infamous GMAT Prep and here was my score.

7/18/11 GMAT Prep #1: 680 Q47 V35

Not bad, at least I was improving. I then took two more MGMAT's, one of which I just finished about 20 minutes ago. Here are my scores:

7/21/11 MGMAT #4: 680 Q47 V36
7/25/11 MGMAT #5: 750 Q48 V45 (OOOOHHH MYYYY GOOOOOOSH!!!! Definitely wasn't expecting this score today!)

FINALLY HIT OVER 700! And it was in the 98%, which is absolutely ridiculous! I know this may be a fluke, but I hope my score stay like that. I plan to take, the final MGMAT, another GMAT Prep, and then the two PowerPreps. At this point, its all about stamina and the will to win! Wish me luck ladies and gentlemen. Any last minute advice I will hope myself humble enough to take.

I know I definitely am not in the position to give advice, but I would like to reiterate what bb has consistently said about scheduling your exam. I have been technically studying for over 7 months now! Big mistake I made. Oh well, if I really can hit that 750, I will think the wait has been definitely worth it. Cheers!

Just finished another MGMAT CAT. Here is the result.

7/27/11 MGMAT CAT #6 720 Q48 V40

Very happy about my score. Although I do see one reason the score may be inflated, sadly. It seems that I have run out of SC 700 level questions, because I only got 600 on this exam. I hope that isn't the reason for my score, because I am aiming for 720. The good news is that I was steadying my quant score on this exam at about 93%, just at the end made a few dumb blunders to drop it to 86%. Just 3 more days until G-Day. Thanks for reading!

Bblast and StayPositive, thank you very much for your support. I was terrified that the last two MGMAT's I took (which I did 70 and 40 points better than my other exams respectively) were flukes, especially since it looked like I was running out of 700 level questions. So, I woke up this morning and took GMAT Prep #2

7/28/11 GMAT Prep #2: 720 Q49 V38

It looks like my verbal keeps taking a hit. Honestly, I felt like the quant was almost too easy. Maybe after all the GMAT Club Tests and MGMAT exams maybe that is the case. Anyway, extremely excited about this score! I will review these answers, take one more exam, and then relax on Friday.

My exam is 12:30pm this Saturday, and I do have to take the experimental section, resulting in a 4 hour exam! I think I'll bring a tuna sandwich, and eat half at each break. Any last minute tips? I need last minute confidence! This can't be a fluke! At least, I hope not. Thanks for reading. I may or may not post tomorrow, but definitely I'll give back to this fantastic community with a debrief.

Thanks everyone for the support. Was pretty busy today and decided to take a last practice exam (probably not a good idea this late).

7/29/11 GMAT Prep 2 Test 1: 700 Q49 V35

Saw a lot of repeats for quant, but very few for verbal, and even if I did see them, I forgot the answers. Verbal felt brutally hard on this exam. Maybe because it is 11:42pm right now. I need some sleep. Wish me luck.

Welcome everyone! I thank you kindly for stepping into this thread.

So, I made a big mistake and did not diagnose myself before studying. I ended up taking the GMAT Club diagnostic test midway through my study of the MGMAT math books. I scored in the 53rd percentile  . I thought math was my "forte" and was expecting at least in the 80s.

So I finished the 5 MGMAT books (sped through them, will review them again after verbal) and decided to take the MGMAT CAT test. I just took the test (mind you I suck at verbal and never studied it yet) and just got my score  .

Drum roll please *Drum*

660 Q47 V33

I am ecstatic!!! I expected to be honest a 520 (something like Q40 V15) but I cannot believe I am so high now!!

Now for me to enter and be called Mr. 700, I can take the GMAT Club Tests (to increase to Q49) and just study verbal normally to break V40.

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for all the kind help and support! I know I am only 33% done with studying, but it helps that my score is far above my expectations!

I will be updating this thread as I practice more, but not as frequently as I would like. Thanks again!

Try to increase the verbal as it has a lot of scope 33 to may be 40 , quant can be improved to 49-50 then you can hit 720-730

Thanks everyone, just got back from the test center. SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED!

660 (81%) Q49 (85%) V31 (58%)

I'm seriously depressed. Before I ever studied verbal I scored V33! The quant section felt just like a GMAT Prep, and I breezed through it. The verbal felt exactly like a GMAT Prep too, but for some reason my score came back horrible! On my practice tests, my SC was the worst section, and CR and RC were about even. On the exam, however, the CR seemed really hard but the SC seemed pretty basic.

Anyway, I'm definitely retaking, this is too depressing. I'll study verbal for a month and hope for the best. I'm also considering taking Knewton's course, or GMAT Pill a money back guarantee. However, it seems like all my money will be spent and I'll have nothing left for grad school!

Sorry for the rant. Back to the books it seems

So, I took two weeks off to clear my mind and started applications. I decided to retake MGMAT CAT #1 and here were my results:

8/15/11 MGMAT CAT #1: 410 (15%) 3Q 44V

I tried to see how low the quant score could go, and yes, a 3 in quant is in the 0%. The 44 was 97%, however, I had seen a majority of the questions before. I didn't remember the answers, but it definitely did help to know them from before. I think the most inflated section though was RC, because I didn't have to read the passages again.

I'm waiting on an email from Knewton to see if I'll take their course. I will be retaking in middle September. This time, 99% of my focus is on verbal, and I'll just review quant every so often to keep fresh.

Go for knewton- Its SC and RC content is very very good. The CR and Quant is average(especially if u have broken ur head with powerscore/gmat club quant sets). But overall the package is good if u have exhausted your cats and official material.

Getting a good 8-10 hours of sleep the night before the exam is more than necessary. I think that lack of adequate sleep can easily add up to a 60 point difference on to score. The right state of mind for the exam always helps boost brain functions IMO.

+1

I used Kaplan, MGMT, and the Powerscore verbal bible before switching to Knewton. Knewton's verbal courses were awesome, it out did all the others by a long shot!

I shot from a 690 to a 760 and a 41V to a 47V in 2 months after switching.

Reviewing your timeline it looks like you were taking an exam almost every day. I know on verbal that being rested can play a huge role in your ability to concentrate and score well.

When doing your practice exams, did you do any of the AWA's along with the tests? Endurance is critical for the verbal section. Your math scores are definitely high enough to break the 700's. Also, supposedly the verbal section in the manhattan gmat practice tests is easier than either gmatprep or the actual gmat.
