I'm having the same issue with the Kaplan disc running Vista 64bit, I've searched the tech forums and seems like the Vista 64x is a known issue...

Might be helpful if there's another way for users with this "MCI Driver" problem to access the Kaplan CATs other then via CD-ROM

You can get access to the same (and more) content by going to Kaplan.com
All of the same tests are available online (if you have internet, which I assume you do, since you post here ;) )

bb's right--everything you need should be online when you register your books. However, if you really need that CD to work, the kind folks at 1-800-KAP-TEST will be able to put you in touch with our tech support department. Let me know if you still have trouble!

I have also faced this problem. Kaplan CD works only in windows XP. It will not work on Windows 7. I have tried a lot but there is no solution available to make the CD work on Windows 7.

Thank you Eli, I was hoping there would be a link somewhere online, as several users have posted about it, unfortunately it seems to be a endless circle because microsoft will tell you it's software, and kaptest tells you its hardware, and neither can really agree, I have had other programs work with the install as a windows XP SP2/3 and they have worked fine, sadly I don't know what sound drivers have to do with a non-listening based exam. :(

Secondly, sorry I forgot to add this, can you link all of us to the book registration page? I'm sure it is located inside the book cover, but I don't have the book on me, as I am away from home, any link would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you in advance.

I also would have a question for .....

I have this book (the first one I bought, before MGMAT 8 set strategy, is fairly good).

When I go to the page of online companion, how long is the web access ?? i mean, MGAMT is for one year from when you inserted the book code, here ???

thanks

Windows 7 has something called xp mode, basically an in-built virtual pc. Google "windows 7 xp mode". With xp mode kaplan cd runs fine.

I know this thread is old, but I googled this problem and this site appeared towards the top. Others experiencing this problem may also be googleing and find this page, thus I will post a work around that has worked for me.
I can only speak to Windows 7 64bit, but I don't know why this wouldn't work for 32bit versions or for vista.

1. go to the control panel
2. open sounds
3. disable all play back devices.

This should allow you to use the software.

If anyone is interested. This solution does the trick. Although I suppose some audio will be lost.
Tested on Windows 8 (64bits).

Thanks! :-D

1. right click on my computer, select and click properties
2. in the screen that pops up, go to device manager
3. scroll through the list and look for; sound, video and game controllers
4. disable (not uninstall!) all of them
5. good luck studying! the software should now work. Don't forget to change it back after you are done!
