Re: Schulich September 2011 - Intake [#permalink]
I applied at the beginning of March and got my offer before the end of March.

The reason Rotman's exchange program looks better for me is because I am planning on going to China.
Also, I notice that Schulich always has many schools listed but with 0 spots available.

The decision has been made, Schulich with $$ was taken over Rotman without $$.

Where in China were you looking at going?

Comparing the supposed number of actual transfers (via Rotman website), to Schulichs supposed transfer options (the numbers next to the school), Schulich has about double.

Makes sense. The cost difference in pretty hard to justify in the first place.

Interesting to hear you say that Rotman has better exchange options. I thought the opposite (I guess it may be what you find interesting) - Rotman to me only has LBS, which I'm assuming is pretty competitive amongst the finance folks at school.

I agree with you on this one. In Rotman's exchange, LBS was the only one that really stood out to me. Any progress on the decision between the two schools?

What about you, Ethos, sounds like you're also faced with the Rotman vs Schulich decision...

Im choosing Rotman. The money is the same for me, and on a personal level (wife going to UofT), it works out so much better, that it seems hard to justify Schulich on grounds of fit alone. In different circumstances (wife not in school, and no scholarships) I think I'd lean towards Schulich.

Both seem quite strong though.

Yup, well good luck at Rotman. If I was in your situation, I would do exactly the same thing!

I may not even end up at Schulich if I get my Ross acceptance in about a week :)

Good luck! Do you have specified post-mba plans, or not really?

Just so you know, that site is mainly meant for current students who are applying for their exchange. The 0 beside a school's name means that someone has already applied for the exchange with that school and it is no longer available. All the schools listed have between 1 and 6 exchange places available every academic year :)

krussell if you're still reading this, do you have any thoughts/suggestions on the accelerated MBA?

It's pretty good. You basically skip out of all but one of the core classes, which means you pick everything you take! I wish I was doing it so I could have gotten out of Finance and Value Creation, haha.

I'm not 100% sure about this either, but because Schulich operates with the flexibility of a regular university, you apply to graduate when you want... so I think if you were so inclined to take an extra semester (say the summer) to get a little more coursework, you'd be able to (don't quote me on it though, that's pure speculation).

I think you've made a great decision, and I would've done the same in your situation. All the best at Rotman, Derek!

I'll look into this. Based on your experiences, how crucial are the first year core courses to the elective courses you take in your second year? And how crucial are they to the big 601 project? If I were to just brush up and review accounting, finance, and other core areas independently, I'm wondering if this would be sufficient to get me through my electives and the 601...

Also, I've read somewhere that your first year serves as a chance to meet people in order to form a good team for the 601, and that since accelerated students go straight to Y2, they won't have a chance to really know their team before selecting it. Any truth to this, and is this reason enough to select the regular program instead of the accelerated in order to take all the first year core courses, meet people, and have a better chance at forming a good 601 group?

Re: Schulich September 2011 - Intake [#permalink]
Hi Guys,

I have been accepted to both Schulich and Rotman and now I have come to a crossroads where I have to choose one of them.

Question is, which one of these B-Schools has a better MBA in Health Sector?

Schulich is attractive due to its low tuition and Rotman looks better on the B-School ranking.

Your honest opinion will help me in selecting "Schulich" or "Rotman".

Thanks
