Hoping someone can please help me with my decision! I have only been admitted to Schulich so far. I'm a career-switcher that is interested in getting into either investment banking or consulting. Cost is a non-factor.
Schulich
+I've already been accepted
+I live nearby
+opportunity for internship, although I hear the placement rate isn't very good
-not known for ibanking or consulting (neither are available as majors)
-from what I hear, none of the investment banking firms recruit out of Schulich
-very few consulting firms recruit out of Schulich
Ivey
+arguably the top program for ibanking and consulting
+ibanking firms and consulting firms recruit out of Ivey
+very strong alumni
+intrigued by their case-based approach
-condensed one-year program is a bit questionable
-one-year program means no internship opportunity
-I will have to move; this is a big deal because I basically have a family that cannot move with me so I will need to make arrangements to have someone help around the house and I will need to travel home as often as possible (about a 3 hour drive)
Rotman
+I live nearby
+as far as Canadians schools go, it's only second (some would argue it's a wash) to Ivey for ibanking and consulting
+opportunity for internship (don't know their placement rate)
-I have a bad feeling about making it into the program
-commuter school, so I hear networking with students isn't as strong as Ivey or Schulich (also a commuter school, but they manage to have a strong social community)
Can anyone confirm and refute some of these points? Can anyone make a strong case for Schulich and consulting/investment banking? Do ibanking/consulting firms prefer Ivey over Rotman? As it stands, Rotman is my top choice.
