Hello Ganesh, thanks for the additional information. This does shed some light into your profile.
Your GMAT seems solid, in general, but your 77% quant score is borderline. Typically, we urge applicants to shoot for 80%. Moreover, you come from an overrepresented demographic that scores disproportionately high on the test, so your 700 is not as impressive as it would otherwise be.
Your GPA is also on the borderline, especially given your demographic. I don’t think academics/GMAT is an area you should particularly worry about, but you won’t necessarily distinguish yourself here.
The fact that you work in IT also doesn’t help you distinguish yourself from demographic, but if you can write about experiences that clearly call out your leadership, initiative, and ability to drive results, that could move the needle. It’s not at all bad that you haven’t managed people officially, but you can still show that you think and behave like the leader programs are looking for.
Regarding extracurriculars, you need not have official volunteer service to have something here. Do you have any passions, hobbies, interests, or causes that you devote significant time to? Often, even if these pursuits are not officially organized, they can reveal a good deal about your values, work ethic, and way of dealing with people and viewing the world.
Overall, I think it will take some brainstorming, but drawing from the right experiences can help put you in a better position than you think in terms of work and, especially, extracurriculars.
I do not have specific expertise in MS/MBA programs. Since you haven’t mentioned your post-MBA goals, the larger question is how would an MBA or MS/MBA fit into your career path, given your background and where you would like to go? You have to demonstrate to admissions committees that you require the degree to further your progress toward your career goals. I can’t say whether you need an MBA or an MS/MBA, but either way I would urge you to think hard about putting together your career plan for the future. Once you have a solid path/arc mapped out, I have a feeling the decision will be easier as to which program makes more sense.
Best of luck!
Brian
