People have long been fascinated by the paranormal. Over the years, numerous researchers have investigated telepathy only to find that conclusive evidence for its existence has persistently evaded them. Despite this, there are still those who believe that there must be “something in itâ€

The conclusion is based on the overgeneralization from the evidence that "some research seems to support the view that telepathy exisits" and that explanations complying with the known laws can be given.
Hence C.

I will go with C.
Author states that many researchers have worked to prove that telepathy is wrong but, still there are some people who believe it is true. And then gives a general statement that there are other explanations which do not comply with the existing facts.
Hence, he concludes but bases his conclusion on very generalized statements.

hey can anyone try and explain how do you arrrive at A as the answer.

(A) supports the conclusion by pointing to the inadequacy of evidence for the opposite view

Conclusion:Therefore, it is premature to conclude that telepathy is an alternative means of communication.
Rephrasing it. Telepathy cannot be easily concluded to be an alternative means of communication.

Opposite view:Telepathy can be easily concluded to be an alternative means of communication.

Points out to the inadequacy of evidence for the opposite view :
Conclusive evidence that supports this view has evaded the scientists.

But how does this support the conclusion. Cannot make the leap.

A

paraphrase:
people have been fascinated with the parnormal for a long time
telepathy has been investigated for its existences, but no proof has ever been found
Yet, some still believe that there must be some truth to it since some research does point to its existence.
But, one can always argue that there are other explanations to the phenomenon and can be exaplined by existing known laws
Therefore, it is premature to say that telepathy is alternate means of communication.

Conclusion: telepathy is not justified as means of communication..

In the passage, the author
(A) supports the conclusion by pointing to the inadequacy of evidence for the opposite view
-->best answer-->he says that the existence of telepathy is not justified because there is no evidence that it exists, and then whoever argues that it does, their arguments can be countered with other explanations which are accepted as law!

(B) supports the conclusion by describing particular experiments
-->not at all

(C) supports the conclusion by overgeneralizing from a specific piece of evidence
-->yes there is generalising, but not over generalising of speficic case of telepathy.

(D) draws a conclusion that is not supported by the premises
-->premise is supported but not with evidence

(E) rephrases the conclusion without offering any support for it
-->there is no rephrasing of the conclusion, he satrts with making an observation about paranormal, then talks about telepathy sepcifically and talks about researches explanations for and against its existence and then draws his own opinion "that there are other explanations" and then concludes...
