Hi, everyone! As the deadline of some business schools are approaching, I'm still not able to choose between an Accounting and a Marketing PhD. And I hope to get some advices from the kind people around in the forum! Personally speaking I'm both interested in analytical modeling in Accounting and quantitative studies in Marketing.
Background: B.A of Economics (Financial Engineering): 4.0/4.5
M.A of Finance 3.8/4.0
Both in top 10 b-schools in China
G/T: GRE: 165V 165Q 3.5AW; T: 114
Research: three papers in Finance(2 empirical, 1 theoretical), one publication (NOT in SSCI); Some RA/TA experience
RL: Professors in Econometrics and Finance, no Acc nor Mkt
Accounting: Finance major, relevant research experience vs NO WORK Experience(only 1 short intern)
Marketing: High econometric course scores/ Completely irrelevant research
More suitable for Acc or Mkt? Looking forward to some advices! Thank you!
As per the background you have just mentioned; you are more interested in Quantitive analysis. I guess accounting would be better choice if you think traditionally. But if are optimistic go for marketing. Nevertheless it would be wise to apply for both the programs; go through the program were you will be accepted. As per work ex. is concerned majority of programs do not required what so ever work ex. So don,t worry about that. My advice is to choose a institute with good applied mathematics background, which will help and suit your profile. My best wishes buddy.
Thanks
